Dual monitors: how to switch the secondary monitor?

August 6th, 2016

I have a Sapphire Radeon 4670 graphics board with three outputs: DVI, VGA and HDMI. My two monitors use the DVI and VGA outputs and I use the HDMI output to watch movies on my HDTV.
Everything works fine, but whenever I connect the HDMI cable (even with the TV off) the image automatically disappears from the second monitor and goes to the TV. Apparently the HDMI output has precedence over the VGA output. The only way to get the second monitor back is to unplug the HDMI cable.
My question is, does anybody know a way to switch between the VGA output (second monitor) and the HDMI output by software, without having to plug/unplug cables every time? Thanks.

Doesn’t sound like that’s going to be possible mate. Sounds to me as if that’s a limitation on the card. May need to consider a second video card?

You can only have 2 active outputs on the card, so you can disable your monitor manually and enable your tv, and vice versa.

Yes, the card only has two active outputs, which is no problem to me: I either work with the dual-monitor configuration or watch TV. Problem is, the second monitor only works when I physically disconnect the HDMI cable. Even with the TV off, apparently it keeps feeding the signal into this cable. I thought perhaps there would be a way to switch this by software to avoid the hassle of messing with cables everytime I want to watch TV.
