October 14th, 2013
if anyone out there knows how or has some links to help me id be forever greatful
Why do you want to do that?
isnt that what its for? 2 diff bands ..1 for gaming 1 for laptops and such? split em anyway you want?
No, lol.
im trying to find a better way for gaming in my office..atm i have xbox connected via bridge to my wireless desktop..connection kinda sucks
was thinking its cuz everyone in the house hogging the same bandwith
id like to make it ..my xbox*wireless bridge / sons xbox*wireles / my desktop **only cuz im bridging my xbox** on 1 line / band
my wifes laptop / sons desktop on a diff line / band
can this be done? do i need to run another router from the dual band router? or should i just contact cable provider and move the hardline to my office?
You need to set up QOS in your router.
what is that? QOS how is this done is it worth the time?
i have found QOS in the router just dont know how to change / set it up
Quality of Service. Lets you manage many things about your network, in your case, bandwidth.

If your firmware does not support QOS, you might be able to flash it with DD-WRT (a very powerful firmware) depending on the brand of your router.

i got it..do you know if i can just run 2 diff routers..or is that a bad idea in diff parts of the house?
If your bandwidth is suffering due to lack signal strength, you can do that. But you would wanna set one up as a repeater on the other side of your house (must be a huge house, lol).
Adding more routers will not increase your bandwidth, that is limited by the internet connection coming in.
ok you have been a big help..maybe i just need another line / Ip and just have 2 bills for what im wanting..idk lol
i want X amount of stuff working here llll and llll X amount of stuff working here and not worrying about bandwith
or maybe i need a higher internet DL speed plan i think i have one of the lowest

This right here ^^
You need to call your ISP and upgrade your plan to get more bandwidth.

this is the set up in my house because one wasnt enough to cover the entire area but like said there still sharing the same connection
I have a N600 (WNDR3700) with a similar setup to you. I have 2 desktop computers wired, 1 laptop wireless, kids desktop wireless, wireless printer, ipod, wii wirelessly. And my xbox 360 is connected via WRT54g (w/ddwrt) as a wireless bridge. Dual band shoots out two signals. 2.4ghz and 5gz, unless it is a newer wireless device then it more than likely wont pick up the 5ghz signal. The only decide in my house that can pick up the 5ghz signal is my newer laptop and the newer wireless adapter that I put in my kids comp. The WRT Obviously wont pick it up since its only wireless G. But even at 54mb and all of the other devices connected on that band along with it using up network bandwidth I don’t even experience any problems. Only things I’ve noticed is that Windows Media Center on the xbox is kinda sluggish and that I cant stream HD movies without stuttering. Which I think the best Idea for this would be just to buy the wireless N adapter for the older xbox or buy a new one thats built in =p
