Display driver problems with windows vista

November 16th, 2021

Hello.
Ive installed Vista home basic 32 bit version recently.Ive used OEM activation which worked correctly.
My system configuration Pentium4 3.06GHz,512MB RAM,Nvidia 7600GS video card,80GB hard drive.
Everything went well until i started Spider solitaire[provided free with vista].I noticed graphics are flickering badly.I checked the display drivers which showed correct drivers are provided with windows.Even then i installed new Nvidia forceware drivers for vista 32.But the problem still exists. However i am able to play videos in media player efficiently and OpenGL is working fine too.
When i tried to change Hardware acceleration from Personalize>Display settings>Advanced settings>troubleshoot>change settings. It read that my current dislay drivers does not allow to change hardware acceleration settings.?????
Any help will be appreciated.

Delete the Nvidia drivers, and reboot.
Then check for windows updates, if the system requires your GPU to be updated, it will download for you.

Finally, thanks for the reply.I will try it ,hope it will work.

512MB Ram is in my opinion not enough for Vista.
I recommend you to disable all eyecandy like the sidebar and it’s attributes.

I had same problem and i fixed it
If it doesnt work download Driver Genius Pro and select windows XP – make sure you select XP because when you select vista, the drivers dont work.
So when you select XP click next and then you will see it shows some Driver / Mointer Drivers… with alot of other stuff, select the mointer/VIDEO drivers and then download it to a folder.
After its download 100% if its .exe right click it and extract ( using Winrar ) If its a folder with driver files then leave it.
After you done that go to control panel and then device manger then go to then select the mointer and right click update driver, locate it to the folder with the drivers you just downloaded and then let it update. Restart then YOUR DONE !

Ive tried every hell of a thing nothing works.Another problem is when i am trying to play DVD videos its giving low FPS speacially in fullscreen. It works well in windowed mode.
Also i think 512MB is not enough for vista. But i dont know why cant i change my hardware settings in display trouble shooting. One more thing After installing latest nvidia drivers and ntune forceware.I cant run nvmonitor to monitor temperature level of GPU.
Any idea whats happening friends?

NVIDIA drivers are all over the place. you’d get specialised help at their forums and they frequently discuss which driver sets work( a few) and dont(most).
Anybody would think from NVidia’s performance that Vista was totally unexpected and launched without consulation or testing. Its a minefield.

sorry to resurrect such an old topic but im having the same problem. I have a new system with nVidia 9600 GT card. 4GB Ram, intel quad core processor. The games flicker and so does full screen video. I have reinstalled drivers and got the most up to date ones but its still a problem. Anyone with any other advice??

Sounds like problems under load. Could be your PSU, but more likely a temperatures issue.
I have’nt touched NVidia since their shambolic perfomance at the launch of vista and resisting the temptation to drone on endlessly and very negatively: These cards have auto fan control which most times isn’t perfect. They try to keep noise down by running the fan slow. Whether thats too slow or it does’nt speed up adequately, I know not. The standard solution is use ‘rivatuner’ to set the fan to run flatout always or flash the card’s bios to change the defaults. They’re about the only constructive things I can say, apart from ensuring that there is good airflow around the card.
Good Luck
