You should reinstall the video drivers. It’s most likely they got corrupted or are highly outdated.

This could also occur when the graphics card is overclocked too much, and the drivers crash
The fix for this would be to lower the clock speeds
I keep getting the same errors on my HP G6 series laptop with AMD graphics card & the error says AMD display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered. I took it to a service centre and was told that the graphics card might be towards its life end.
First things first, always go to software, did they tell you what they did? Have you tried reinstalling the driver? Have you reinstalled windows? Have you checked temps? Have you reapplied thermal paste? Have you checked the screen cable, maybe it is loose? I assume the gfx card is soldered to the mobo? Try finding a cheap replacement (of the mobo I mean) or try to reflow it (or the mobo, you have to inspect the connections with a strong magnifier to see what’s going on).
First things first. Go to a graphics card forum or a computer forum. Ask where people that are members there know what they are talking about. You will be shown how to gather log files and somebody may be able to diagnose your issue.
1 forum in particular that I know would do this is;
Windows 8 Forums
http://www.eightforums.com/
Become a member, go to the graphics section and they will instruct you on how to retrieve logs and whatever else they need to help you.
Windows 7 forum would probably do the same
