Data Recovery Help!

Hi! I have a memory stick and it seems to be corrupted. When I plug it in, it says that it needs to be formatted. I used CHKDSK and it said it was a raw partition. I have also used Easeus, but it doesn’t even recognize the memory stick. Does anyone know any other methods of recovering the data from the memory stick?

ok then format it and then try data recovery software.. what does the memory stick contain of ? picture mp3 files ??

It documents. I tried to format the memory stick, but it won’t let. Says it doesn’t – Windows is unable to complete the format. Also, it says it can only format 8mb and the memory stick is a lot bigger than that!

I had this problem many times, those recovery programs rarely ever work properly . Best bet is always have a backup for data, and never put anything so valuable on a stick that you cant afford to lose it

Yes, I’ve tried a good few different software’s to try recover the files but nothing has worked.. Can’t even format the memory stick. According to the format wizard, it says the memory stick is only 8mb big, which is wrong. Then when I try to format, it says that the memory card cannot be formatted. Any ideas?

plug it in and run diskmgmt.msc , then paste the screenshot here which covers the part for your usb drive. i need to see how it is partitioned before i can say anything , also if you change its partitioning style from mbr to gpt , it also causes problems.

pls right click to disk1 , there should be either of those “convert to mbr” or “convert to gpt” , tell me which one is available.
edit : i wont be online for the next 15 hours so , no matter which one is available there are steps you should do. your usb drive may actually get corrupted which means there is nothing can be done , this is the worst case. in good case , some usb drives have special protection which may cause what you experience , so go to the site of your usb stick brand, and see if there is a special formatter for their usb drives and format with it. if there is no such thing , there is a general tool for it .

this will help you to format your usb stick , since those software sites sometimes bundles things with adware be careful while installing or directly download from hp’s site , as far as i know this software is portable so no need for installation. it may fail a few times , just plug in and out your usb stick until it does. know that this process wont effect the chance recovering your files , since they will be always there unless you overwrite them with new files. to be honest , i never seen any person who is able to recover files in situations like that through some software which claims that it can do it . maybe it is really hard or people have limited knowledge of softwares they use , in any case , i wouldnt be hopeful. also if protection on usb stick causes what you experience , you need to format it somehow before recovering anything.

If you have problems running other commands, diskpart will work.
