CPU Upgrade Help

August 7th, 2016

Hello guys, hope this post finds you well.
I got the “ASRock N68C-S UCC” motherboard, and I found out that it supports good kind of processors, only AMD though.
Since I have no knowledge about AMD at all, I’m here to ask if anyone could give me any names of good processors that I can get, somewhere similar to the power of “Intel i3 3.0GHz” or so.
I need it for gaming mostly, and around 100bucks price range would be cool.
Thank you.

up to six core or upgrade your mobo and get something like the 8350.

Thank you a lot , this was really helpful.

I’m using a Sabertooth 990FX V2 with a AMD 8350 (4.0gig), 8gigs of ram. It over clocks easily to 4.5-4.7 with decent cooling (3rd party only).
FYI, ….AMD runs hotter than Intel, so I recommend using a Corsair H100i (Liquid cooled sealed unit), instead of using the AMD stock cooler. If you decide to buy a 3rd party cooler make sure your case can house it before you by. IMPORTANT: The stock cooler should never be used to over clock…it’s not powerful enough so you could damage your main board. Also you might have to update your BIOS on the motherboard if your installing the 8350 processor. Regards,

If your planning to upgrade your CPU using your existing motherboard, be sure to update the bios with your old CPU first.
Answer #5
Thanks for the tips guys I didn’t know this.
How should I do that, is it a must?
EDITED:
I just bought one and it seems I wasted my cash.
AMD Quad Core Athlon II X4 631 Propus 4 x 2.60GHz 4MB Cache
TDP 100W

and I can’t really put it on my motherboard.
I just read on the internet “- Support up to 95W Socket AM3 processors*” Is 100W the problem? Some kind of a new generation?
Answer #6
If the bios listed it as usable, its fine. Other than that the socket must match.
Answer #7
A 1035T is the best you can do in your price range.
I’m not an AMD person but I believe the 631 is for FM1 socket.

Yes FM1 socket so it is no good for your AM3 board..
Get the best AM3 you can from this list here.

On that list the 1036T is shown by it’s part number of HDT35TWFK6DGR
Just to be confusing!
Remember that you are building a 5 year old computer by using that motherboard..
BTW… if you wanted to use a AM2 or AM2+ CPU, then you have to use DDR2 ram.
But AM3 is fine for DDR3 ram.

Already got one, but am trying to trade it with a friend for AM2 or AM3 socket.
Tho, is AM3 good with DDR2 or it must go with DDR3?

^-^ Finally found an answer !
Yes, it would appear AM3 is OK with DDR2..

That’s a good forum to check out if you are an Asrocker
