Computer to control things? + Phoneable?

Okay, I’m not too sure on how I’d do this.
I’d like to setup my computer to receive some sort of message (e.g phone call) to do certain commands. Also, how would I do something like air conditioner control out of my computer? Is that possible?
If you havn’t guessed, I’m trying to get my computer to control my home’s heating, lighting etc. Seeing the possibilities of what I can actually do. I would like to start traveling home from work, phone (or text, email.. whatever) the computer and tell it to turn on the heating.
What sort of special hardware (if any) would I need?

Well first you need a thermostat that can receive and send signals. same with the lighting. i dont think this is possible. if it is it would be hard as you need to buy the equipment.

This is very possible, but the trick is how to do it obvioulsy.
You would need to have knowledge of electronics (circuitboards, wires, .ect)
You would also need an extensive knowledge of programming
or you could google for a company that does this sort of thing.

You need to find a system that you can control via your PC..
I can’t suggest you one because I live in Belgium and we probaly use others systems..
But one thing it’s very expensive and you need to connect all your sensors, switches and ligths etc.. to one network.
