Can’T access folders on hard drive.. their all shortcuts…

August 5th, 2013

I don’t necessarily need my data recovered, but I have an error and thought you might be able to fix it.
All the folders in my harddrive are shortcuts ( I don’t know why) and whenever I click them I get the following error:
(Opens up a dos prompt) and displays the following error:
“Windows cannot find ‘H:\AdobeReader\DSCI5829.jpg’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
can you please help me access these folders? I want to be able to have my important files.
Thanks.

Try a system restore to a date before the problem started happening.

Sorry, I’m not sure how to do a system restore to my external harddrive.
Answer #5
There’s no connection whatsoever to X HDD, System restore only backs up the registry & key system files and
this is likely caused by some sort of registry problem.
Goto Start>Programs>Accessories>System tools>System restore.

sounds like a virus. try enabling the hidden files and you’d prolly be able to see them. tho you might want to scan it an antivirus too

I can see that it is almost full, but I can’t check the files because they are in folders and the folders are shortcuts.

I will try checking hidden files, but what am I looking for specifically? I have already done a full virus scan with avg anti virus and it found nothing. Also, everytime I reformat it, the same issue appears.

Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2011

Its recycler worm, the file still there the shortcut just make them invisible, if you want to retrieve the file just click the shortcut, there will be another folder pop up beside the error, look at the taskbar below the folder is there, saveyour file to a different location then format the HDD, update your antivirus then scan your computer, should be no problem if your antivirus are up to date, another option..use malwarebytes. This worm spread via usb hard drive where the auto run function is enable. Good luck with your problem
