Blocking a program with firewall.

September 26th, 2013

I have just downloaded a Windows 7 manager program to help clean up my registry, perform checks etc. In the .diz file, it says to block the program’s access to the internet. I understand the need to do this, so I open up Windows Firewall and as far as I understand, I need to configure inbound and outbound rules for it. Now, when I come to select the .exe, there are many different files in the installation folder.
My question is, do I need to block each and every one? or is there one I can block which will block entire access?
For example, I have a Windows7manager exe, a registry cleaner exe, a liveupdate exe (block this one obviously). But there are like ~30 more.
So any help would be appreciated. If worse comes to worse, I will just turn off my internet access on my laptop, and do the whole thing offline.
Thanks.

Also wile you use it, just unplug your internet from that computer.
Its hard to answer your question really as firewalls all do this slightly different.
You could just see what web addy it redirects to, and then block this using your hosts file. If you can find what web addy they goto you can just block them instead of the apps themselves.
Answer #2
you could try to stop them at startup or you can stop them as a service all together
just type in msconfig into the start menu and configure it from there
otherwise there should be an area on your firewall that you can block things with,
(it should ask you to find the .exe) just make a list

Thanks for your help. Will look in the firewall settings again.
