Backup of Windows XP Registry

What is the best procedure to take backup of windows xp registry and how to restore it? Please advise.
Moreover, if somebody wants to suggest more regarding this please share.

Your better off using ERUNT, it can make auto backups for each boot or manual backups if you run the program. Then if you want to restore a registry backup you go to the folder where the backups are kept and run the program to restore the backup. Very easy and it does full backups/restores. It’s got me out of a few incidents like messing around with codecs and even a problem when I could not get a driver to install after a system restore, ERUNT fixed it.

After you back it up you just right click the reg file and merge it if anything goes wrong.
