AVI Files

Can someone tell me why when I extract my winrar files I am getting a “Movie Clip” and not a file that says .avi?
I recently got rid of my old PC, and I am using a new one. On my old one I would unzip and I had my avi file, and sometimes it was a mkv file and when I downloaded a bunch of .avi files I used HJsplit, and so on. Well now I get a movie clip, but it has no extension.
I was wondering if I had downloaded a prog/app and it was doing it all the while automatically. Anyone figure this out, any remedy?
