Asus G74Sx with touchpad troubles

August 6th, 2016

Hello Gentlemen! I have been absent for a long time, work has that effect on people. I have a dilemma and it’s something which I need your expert help with.
Okay first thing first, I am working with an ASUS G74Sx Notebook, running W7 Home Premium 64 bit, with basically all Windows updates installed. Here is my CPU-Z Validation Report – http://valid.canardpc.com/37v9in
Or if you prefer here is the SysInfo details:
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7
Processor Count: 8
RAM: 16361 Mb
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer Inc., G74Sx
Antivirus: Kaspersky Internet Security, Updated and Enabled
And just so you know, this is the Asus page where I have downloaded my drivers from http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G74Sx&p=3&s=336&os=30&hashedid=LUFmeP8fwFruEdH7

Now, here is the actual problem.
I had to re-install my W7 about a month ago. I did everything as I had before, did a clean install, meaning, I wiped my Operating System hard drive during the installation process. I downloaded my drivers as usual from that Asus website I mentioned above.
My touchpad on this laptop will not disable when I type, even though I have that option checked in the settings, and it will not disable when I press the shortcut keys (fn + f9), in fact, it doesnt even how the symbol for the touchpad on the screen when I press the combination. The other shortcut combinations work just fine. Just to try it I reinstalled the drivers for the shortcut combinations from the Asus website, but that didnt help. Also, I re-installed the driver for the touchpad, thinking I could disable the touchpad in the properties window, but again, even though I checked that option, the touchpad did not become disabled. (This is what I mean by disabling the touchpad in properties, I followed these instructions, http://youtu.be/PDxmy0Mi2Hc
So, I re-installed the touchpad drivers one more time, just for fun, haha and this configure button in the mouse properties window now does not do anything when I click it.

Next, I read somewhere that I could disable my touchpad in the BIOS, I found the option in my BIOS, switched it to disable, and saved the changes, my windows booted up, and to my delight the touchpad was not responsive, but there was a new problem, the keyboard became disabled as well. I have tried updating my BIOS to the versions available on the Asus driver download page, but neither versions that they provide want to work with my system. Using WinFlash, with both versions it gives me some bogus errors and nothing changes.
Also, a secondary thought. I don’t know any programming language, but maybe someone here does. Maybe it’s possible to write some kind of small program to disable the touchpad mouse as long as a USB mouse is plugged in?
Thank you
P.S. I hope this post is much easier to read than my previuos posts, I ask my friend in Pensylvania to spell check and correct as many things as he see.

hi ,
read this from a forum with peeps with the same issue as your having
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?3426-G74SX-trackpad
scroll down and you will see If you installed the Synaptics driver then you used the wrong one. The G74SX uses the Sentelic Touchpad and according to the G74 driver page is version 9.1.3.5. Try that one see if it helps. If you installed the Synaptics driver then you used the wrong one. The G74SX uses the Sentelic Touchpad and according to the G74 driver page is version 9.1.3.5. Did you uninstall the incorrect driver and then restart before installing the correct driver, if not uninstall both drivers, restart then reinstall the correct one and restart again.
