Alienware m9700, slowing down

January 25th, 2020

Hi everyone, Im running Windows Vista Home, 2GB RAM, 32 BIT, 2.40GHz Alienware m9700
The general running of the laptop is okay (could be better I guess but its already 6 years old) but watching movies and videos is unbearable, it constantly stops and starts and is very frustrating!
What can I do to fix this, my internet is absolutely fine, its the laptop thats the problem!
Should I completly format it, I already have my personal data backed up…whats my next move please?
How do i set it back to the day is I first bought it?

Answer #1
It might be throttling back due to a dust bunny invasion.
Try cleaning the internals out.
Answer #2
Well if Your Looking for a clean Install ya Ok.. But do U need to..?
Ya gonna Use the Vista HOme or Download the Ultimate. (my suggestion)
Maybe U just need a good clean up and Defrag job ?
ED: Keep the vacume cleaner well away… lol
Use can Of Air to clean and do it outside..,

first, how do you know the internet connection is fine? did you try playing those videos on another computer? also, did you run a disk defragmenter? and you should vacuum the grill where the fan outlet is, it may be clogged with dust. also, 2GB of ram is on the low side for vista/win7. more memory will speed it up. there’s no need to format and reinstall the operating system.. unless, you want to install win7 ultimate 64 bit. that would be worth it.
Answer #4
I have installed Advanced System Care and did all the cleaning possible, I also defraged my hd but still having the same problems!
Answer #5
uninstall advanced system care and see if it gets back to normal
Answer #6
Go on pingtest and speedtest to confirm that it is not an internet issue.
What browser do you use? If you are set on reformatting, i’d recommend that you install a clean copy of W7.

So here are my results:
Ping Test

Speed Test:

I’m using Chrome, my flatmates and I all share the internet and they have absolutely no problems with speed! Thats why I thought it must be my computer!
