TV not detecting DVI connection
November 15th, 2013
I am now having trouble with my TV detecting my PC using the VGA video cable. When I have my monitor connected to my PC everything is fine, when I connect the TV, it is not detected, everything black.
I am trying this with a desktop computer running Windows XP Pro SP3.
What should I do? Thanks!
Can someone please help me this is driving me crazy. The computer detects the monitor, but if I connect to the TV, computer not detecting the TV or the TV is not detecting the PC.
Not quite sure man. You can diagnose individual components.
Make sure you are using a good cable (test it with the monitor).
If you have a laptop, or other pc, try hooking that up to the TV.
If the known good cable gives a black screen on more than one PC, its probably an issue with the TV.
If the known good cable works with another PC or laptop, then there must be an issue with your PC or its video card.
You could try connecting your TV to you computer via the VGA cable.. Make sure you have the correct input selected, then try restarting your computer with the TV on. I had a PC that would only see the TV after a restart for some reason.. Hope this helps..
The tv has to be on first, for the computer video card to detect at boot. Many video cards allow you to “cold connect” or “force attach”, but you might have to do it manually … depending on your settings. In short connect the vga cable, switch on tv, MAKE SURE THE TV IS SET TO VGA INPUT, and then reboot the machine … that should do it. If not you could check the resolution settings but admittadly thats a long shot because your card should adjust automatically …. unless the auto resolution function was disabled.
If this dosn’t help please could you post the make and model of your video card.
Okay so the problem I think I am having is with the TV. It requires certain resolution at 60 Hz. However, how am I supposed to set the required resolution and the 60 Hz if I can’t see anything on the screen? How can I also manually search for new hardware if I can’t see anything? My TV has only once connection that I can connect with my PC and it is the VGA. My PC does not have HDMI, or DVI, or S-Video.
My Video card: Via/S3G UniChrome IGP
What I was trying:
1. Turned off the TV. Turned of the PC. Connected the VGA cable to both the TV and PC. Turned ON the TV and set to the right TV input/channel. Turned ON the PC. The screen was black for the entire time. Then I connected my PC to a LCD monitor. It worked fine. TV still doesn’t work.
2. I tried troubleshooting my TV. Connected the VGA cable to my Macbook. The TV didn’t recognize the Macbook either. So then I looked it up that the TV works only at two resolutions, which one is not supported by my Macbook, and I am not able to check that of my PC.
Try Changing you Computer Resolution to VGA 800x 600.
TV not detecting DVI connection
My PC does not have HDMI, or DVI, or S-Video.
is “TV not detecting VGA connection” what you mean ?
and I am not able to check that of my PC.
set it to that res while on the monitor, then connect it to the TV
and if you have an LCD monitor it’s already @ 60hz
Yea, basically the TV does not want to detect any computer through VGA.
I tried my other computers through HDMI and s-video and it works. But VGA is not working, don’t know why.
You sure you picked the correct input on the TV? Tried switching between PAL/NTSC? How bout setting
the resolution to the lowest on the PC before connecting? Are you using a direct VGA>VGA cable or something else?
Im sure it is the correct input on the TV Didn’t try switching between PAL/NTSC. tried setting the resolution to the lowest on the PC before connecting. I am using direct VGA > VGA.
But I am gonna close this issue, because I resolved with different cable. I don;t know if I feel like trying to resolve the VGA problem on this TV.
Thanks all for your help!
