Upgrading PC’s hardware so that it can run Halo 1

August 2nd, 2016

Hi guys,I recently won a new cheap PC,and i wanna give it to my nephew, but i don’t know if it will run the games he likes,i looked and halo combat evolved looks like a “light” game and popular, but i’m a “noobwit”,and i don’t know what hardware upgrades it needs to do so or if that can even be done, please help?
PC description:Compaq Presario
AMD Sempron 3400+ Processor + 2.0 GHz
256MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon Xpress 200 graphics with up to 128M shared video memory
48X CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive
( I have from my own desktop a nVIDEA PCI Epress GeForce 7300GT graphic card i can give him,but i don’t know if it’s compatible with that PC)
Halo system requirements
Computer/Processor: 733 megahertz (MHz) processor.
DirectX: DirectX 9.0 or later. (DirectX 9.0b is installed by Halo.)
Memory: 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM.
Hard Disk: 1.2 gigabytes (GB) of free hard disk space.
Video card: 32 MB with 3D Transform and Lighting capable.
CD: 8X.
Sound: Sound card, speakers, or headphones with multiplayer play.
*56.6 Kilobytes per second (KBps) modem or 10 MB network adapter. Multiplayer servers require broadband to run a server.
*Additionally, you must have an Internet Service provider (ISP) or a Local Area Network (LAN), if you want to play multi-player games.
Thanks in advanced!

Answer #1
It will be more than enough to run halo on decent settings.
Answer #2
That would be fine to run Halo 1, and like has already said, on good quality settings too
Answer #3
Alright thanks for your time guys, but when i tried to install the GeForce graphics card on that PC i get the message:
“The graphics adapter installed in the system is not compatible with the current set of drivers”
Does this mean that graphic card is not compatible with that PC? and if not,,,Will the PC still be able to run the game without a graphics card? because the PC itself it’s slow as it is “untouched” right now.
Answer #4
Nevermind I’m looking for driver now.
Driver:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=ob-34805-1

Also the video you have might or might not work depending on his motherboard so I would suggest checking if he has any pci express ports for video cards.

Answer #5
You need to Install the drivers for the graphics card, also i’de recommed adding something like 1gb of ram. But that computer is already up to running the first halo game.
