Make an old computer a network drive?

January 22nd, 2020

Hey guys,
I have this old computer keeps crashing, it seems to be once it starts to get a bit more heavy usage it crashes, but anyway i was wondering if there was maybe a linux thing that was very very low resource usage, just enough for it to be able to make the hard drives available on the network?
I hope it makes sense

Windows Server 2003 is great for file servers on older hardware. Minimum requirement is 133 MHz 128 MB RAM, so it is pretty light weight.
Have you run a memtest on the RAM?
What type of RAM does it use. You can often salvage older RAM types for free or dirt cheep.
Answer #2
use freenas (linux OS..) It is made for what you want to do.. And no i’m not a linux pusher.. (I’m a microsoft network admin)..
It will run rock solid
Answer #3
yeah freenas is perfect for what you want. Very easy to use but has loads of features!
