Transcoding with Sorenson will allow you to reduce the size of the ripped file but will take some time, Alternatively you can just use VOB2MPG to get a 4-8GB rip in a few minutes.

Why don’t you ask him WHAT the movie is – some (district 9 for eg) have new copy protects!

Why don't you ask him WHAT the movie is - some (district 9 for eg) have new copy protects!
because he wants the copy of the contents in the DVD.
Answer #16
That’s what I said..
I’m presuming it’s a movie, yes? You can’t just copy ANY css encrypted movies file from dvd to hard drive, it need to be decrypted. The newer A grade movies have newer protections in their structure.
So:
if it’s a old movie and it’s a retail movie (encrypted), he need to decrypt it and possibly shrink it too – dvd shrink will do this without fail IF it’s older than about 3 years, AND has no scratches on the disk.
if it’s a newer move – same deal, decrypt, but shrink chokes on the newer protections – use dvdfab platinum to rip and shink, or dvdfab free to rip and dvdshrink to shrink.
THAT’S why I said about asking him the movie instead of just shouting out all different names for different programs!
Final eg – District 9 has a new structure protection – and there’s a new version of dbdfab that will handle it.
