IS it possible to swap 2.5″ hdd with a different laptop

August 29th, 2013

Okay, so here’s the deal: I crashed my old 15.6 laptop (some unknown issue) so I bouht another one with 17.3″ screen and a room for 2 HDD’s and the thing is, that I want to swap one of the ones that are in the new laptop with the one that was in my old broken lappy because I need to access all the data from the old one, but I am not sure if it is possible and I can’t try it now becuse I don’t have such a small screwdriver and before getting one I’d like to know that. My old laptop was Acer and my new one is Asus, if this info helps.
Thanks for any help

Yes should be fine.
One of your hard-drives inside your NEW Laptop will contain the files to boot Windows… Dont remove that drive. Remove the other one.
It should be more or less plug and play.

It depends if the old hard drive is PATA (IDE) or SATA connections. You may need to buy a £2-3 PATA USB hdd enclosure or PATA to USB cable if it’s an older drive.

Also, when I took a look into the new one I saw some wide black stripes coming out of the both hard drives. But the HDD from the old lappy didn’ have this stripe. Might that be a problem? (I’m sorry, I am not really a tech savyy guy and can’t name the ‘black stripes’ , hope you know what the stripes are.)

Can you post a pic ?
Probably just part of the assembly so you can pull the hdd’s out easily ?
