Windows 7 Fan problem

August 7th, 2016

okay i have an acer aspire 5315 with 2gb of ram and a 320 gb HD stock cpu and stock fan.
the fan ran fine on Vista but when i installed Windows 7 it barely spins the fan works fine whenever i turn on my laptop it spins fast almso at full speed for 3 seconds starting up then it just slows down as to were it is barely pushing air
so now my laptop overhaets extremely easy i had it at 86c with out me running it hard it stays around 50c
any ideas?
things i have done

  1. Installing hard ware drivers all up to date
  2. speed fan only works with XP

yea forgot to mention there is no options for power control in the bios >.> only boot menu pretty much XD
i already changed the pwer options through management to allow it to be running and not on passive and it didnt do much
any other ideas…?

Typical microsoft crap then….I’m sticking to XP. An operating system will not affect your hardware in anyway at all, And through my experience with laptops, It sounds as if your fan is on it’s way out. Bad news in any laptop user’s book. So can’t help you there m8

as i said my fan is fine -_- im not new to PC’s or laptops my side job is fixing and building custom pc’s
i have tested it in some of my other laptops and it does fine its nothing but a hardware conflict with the OS i had the same problem with vista as well it over heated every now and then
Answer #5
I can’t see how that would affect your laptop or overheat it? I build custom pc’s also and I stay well away from laptops now, But that don’t sound right.
Answer #6
if the OS’s cant tell the fan how fast to spin then it will cause the cpu to overheat its single core and gets hot fast and btw i didnt make my laptop i only build towers
Answer #7
Yes same here I build desktops. But the bios can override the OS, So have you tried turning off auto fan control in the bios? Leave it on full instead? or even turn it off completely.

there is no fan control through bios there is only a boot menu and a menu for like disk drives there is no power options or fan controls in bios
acer depends on the OS to tell the fan how fast to spin which is ~ censored ~ -_-

If you are having trouble with your fan, the problem is more likely with your fan and not the OS. A couple things here. 1.That box sports a Celeron processor which will limit what it’s able to do. 2. That machine has a history of overheating regardless of OS. Even Linux users complain about the heat issues and Linux requires almost nothing to run. I suspect it once lived at Wal-mart, the undisputed king of crappy electronics and the last place you go to buy anything electronic beyond an alarm clock. The way to know is get a copy of Linux Ubuntu and run it from the CD/DVD. I suspect your machine will still be overheating. If you don’t have the receipt, put it up on Craigslist quick.

Answer #12
do you have the latest bios? i didn’t bother looking what V1.45 addresses.
apparently you can run a OSS bash script “acer_fancontrol” to resolve this issue on ubuntu.

Is the fan clean? If you have some compressed air, Blow it out a bit, The fan may be sticking. Just a thought. But then again, seems to know this model and it’s probs, So it seems that is what is up. I was thinking, how can it be the OS? It’s not possible…
Answer #15
Scripts cannot modify the bios!!! lol
Answer #16
in this case it is the OS for me atleast because the fan doesnt spin at all and no program can even reconize the fan being there but yet it still barely spins
when i had vista it worked fine and it still over heated because thats what the pc’s are known for
also i cleaned it of when i first noticed the problem about 3 days ago and its clean, i clean allmy fans every 2-3 months (house is very dusty)
Answer #17
Well it’s either the fan going or it is’nt getting a proper voltage to spin it. Either way this has nothing to do with any OS.

i installed XP on my other partition and my fan works fine so intern the fan is not going and its not the bios
its windows 7 the fan is not compatible with it come to find out for some odd reason…

i know your on win7 i was just trying to point you into the right direction.
the fan will always spin @ post, now:
supposedly if your pc starts hot the bios will detect it and it will stay on as your OS boots.
if your pc starts cool the bios will detect it and lower/turn off the fan, then the OS never turns it back on.
and no the script doesn’t modify the bios.

yea so now im looking for aprog that will let me turn the fan on ive tried many but none recognize that theres a fan there
Answer #21
i would MacGyver it, connect the fan to the internal usb port with a external switch.
