you might want to try this 1st if you have sys restore enabledHope U have Sys.restore On..... Boot into Safe Mode .. do a SYS.RESTORE...
if not or it don’t work then
uninstall all ATI stuff in add/remove proge’s in control panel, don’t reboot if asked to
go to device manager and expand display adapter the rt click the vid card and select uninstall
reboot when asked this time and let windows reinstall the driver, reboot and install the new XP driver

You can use DriverCleaner (google it) to remove all ATi related drivers.
Answer #4
well i uninstalled ati drivers by removing it from add remove programs and uninstalling the driver in hardware properties but when i restartyed my computer i got the same error message again :'( now i am downloading driver cleaner maybe it would help a bit..
Answer #5
very simple to do.
Load xp in safe mode (F8 before the windows logo).
Uninstall all ati stuff
Reboot in normal mode.
use driver cleaner like told you.
install the right drivers.
Or (workaround):
in run: msconfig
and search the RTHDCPL entry in the startup and disable it.
(this is just a workaround)
And you’re done.

your second method works thank you a lot well sometime my screen got blank for a second when i try to open any program is it normal?
i have another problem with my windows too when i try to shut down it just hang sometime and dont shutdown… how to fix that problem???
Answer #7
the rthdcpl.exe is a sound driver control panel file
do anything with your sound card lately ?
in msconfig try uunchecking any sound related items and reboot to see what happens
ok see you did that ^^, so now do what I said about vid card with sound card (Realtek HD Audio), that may be the root problem
Answer #8
The blinking problem will have to do with the driver you’ve installed.
I prefer you’d try the first solution to solve that issue.
For the pc not shutting down i have to look into it.
Could you post your setup?
Mobo GPU etc…
(I sometimes have the same problem but never took a look into it.)

found something:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=74ad4188-3131-429c-8fcb-f7b3b0fd3d86
Install that patch after you’ve reanabled the exe again.
That will solve the error properly.
is right about the realtek HD
Good luck
Answer #10
well i didnt touch the sound card driver so why its causing the problem? well maybe by installing an updated version of soun driver would help?
edit: Pc configuration
intel pentium 4 2.8 GHZ RAM 512 MB ( 64 mb shared with GFX )
Ati Radeon Gfx 64 mb ( 64 mb shared with ram )
80 GB hARD DRIVE
windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 2
well i update my windows regularly with windows update.. maybe some update is causing this problems
Answer #11
microsoft solved that issue (shown the link).
probably an update that has been installed without you knowing it? (autoupdate on of windows?)
try installing the patch after you’ve enabled the RTHDCPL again.
Answer #12
i enabled RTHDCPL and installed that patch and when i restart no error messages…
but i have two problems remaining one is that blinking and other that shutdown problem!! how to fix them??
Answer #13
blinking problem: install another ati driver. (uninstall the old one and install a newer one. (maybe tweaked drivers would be nice for that ‘older’ pc?)
shutdown problem: looking into it now
Answer #14
little question: how far those the shutdown go?
Is windows gone but pc keeps running? -> no powerdown
Or windows keeps hanging on saving settings… or ….
Answer #15
well i have installed the new one old ones were working perfectly…
Answer #16
then i’d say install the older ones cause the new drivers are beeing tweaked for the newer cards.
