Xbox streaming & subtitles

February 4th, 2020

I download movies to my PC and stream wirelessly to XBox to then watch in HD on my TV. Having poor hearing the subtitles would be useful but although I download them and file is named the same as the avi file etc they never appear in the play menu options via the Xbox 360 controller. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
Answer #1
Your best option is to hard encode the subtitles onto the avi file.
A google search got this option which looked like it would help you http://forum.videohelp.com/topic272736.html

The 360 doesn’t seem to support subtitles on .mkv and divx/xvid files for some reason.
Answer #3
both 360 and PS3 both dont support subtitles . Even if you put the .srt / sub file. They are not recogniseable by the system, it is very sad i would have loved if it worked like it does on my pc & divx player.

well obviously if you play a retail DVD on a ps3 it will also work. What i was talkin about is normal video format e.g. avi DVDRip wont play.

Sorry it was’nt obvious to me or I would not have said it. Tried using Nero REcode which has owrked at merging the files into a 1.9 gb MPEG4 file but this still does not work on y DVD palyer comes back as unrecognised disc. It will play on my Xbox for about 5 mins (no subs) and then rejects it as incompatible format. As you may guess I am no expert but enthusiastic amateur. When I googled it “avi sub xbox” I got a lead saying that you must include the idx file as well. Does this make any sense to anyone?

Your best option is hard encoding them to the Avi file, its like re-writing the video with them stuck on so all you need is the .avi file.
Ive had to do this in the past with foreign films on my iphone and it works a treat
