Website to own webserver
August 1st, 2013
I own a website hosted on a paid webserver but I tought that moving it to my own PC (which, in this case, will become the server) will be a cheaper and better alternative.
Now my question, I heard of Xampp/Wamp but I would like to keep the domain I bought and have a nice address instead of the IP. Is it possible to tie my server with the domain? If yes, how?
Also, installing Windows Server 2008 would be better than using Xampp/Wamp?
Thanks and have a happy new year!

Not really.
Xampp is pretty good you can set it to install the services and etc.

You need the help of a dynamic DNS provider for that. There are plenty of those to go around just Google for “dynamic DNS”. Most offer free packages that should work well enough for your needs.
Thanks for the reply, but I heard that if I put my IP as the nameserver the domain will display the site from the IP, is that true?
