Distorted sound on Windows 7
August 6th, 2016
As I mostly use my PC to watch movies and play music, it really sucks for me. So I was wondering if anyone can help me.
One thing I have found out is that it isn’t because I installed something weird, because I was so annoyed by it that I completely reinstalled my Windows 7, afterwards I still had the same problem.
I’ve also tried installing the latest Realtek Driver, no improvement either.
Any help?
sounds like a driver issue to me. are you sure you installed the proper driver, and that it was installed correctly?
Well, I installed this :
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
And I installed it 2 times. The first time was I simply installed it, didn’t work, this was before I reinstalled windows 7.
Then I reinstalled windows 7, and after some googling found out that it might help to run the audio drivers in Vista mode, so I tried that. Made no difference either
get better drivers
MrX, any suggestions? Or links, that’d be even better What drivers do I need?
you really need to tell us what soundcard you have. otherwise we don’t know what drivers you need.
My device manager says :
Realtek High Definition Audio. But I’m guessing that’s not my sound card, because that’s just what I installed. Where do I see what sound card I have? All I can find is my graphics card, Nvidia Geforce 7050 / Nvidia nForce 620i.
just a wild guess – it could be anything really –
open your realtek HD audio manager -the red icon on your taskbar –
in the speakers tab choose default format tab , select – 16bit,44100 hz ( cd quality )-
and see if this change anything .
Tried every setting on the tab that you suggested, didn’t change anything.. Thanks though
If it does it only when u are loading sth else, set access to your music playing software to higher priority
This might sound a bit weird but one thing that really pops out to me is Nforce 620i. That is an sli motherboard are you running in SLI? If you are try running without it and see if that fixes it. I had an nightmare of a time with sound a while back and ended up fixing it with the motherboard drivers even though I have a creative card. The most current drivers were a problem and I had to install older ones. Any way this might give you a direction to look into, probably worth checking into.

I just tried turning off what was listed as the Nforce 620i, but the problem is that it’s listed together with my graphics card, the PC sees it as one device. So I turned it off, and my resolution was set a lot lower. Then I tried to play some music, and it still sounded the same way.
Not sure if that’s what you meant, but if it was it didn’t work, sadly

Didn’t work either..
Right click My Computer
Select manage
Device manager in the left pane
Look under audio controllers
Check the properties for them and make sure they’re working correctly.
Right click the volume icon at the bottom then playback devices.
Check the configuration and make sure there are no “enhancements” enabled.

It shows that everything is okay. And I tried to update all drivers, but they all said the driver software was up to date.
does the Realtek driver come with a control panel or anything?
That what you mean? That’s what I could find.
actually , you do have something wrong ,where is digital input tab?
edit : i’m comparing with the one that i have ,may be it doesn’t have to have a digital input tab !!!
edit 2 :also why not try to disable the realtek from the device manager and let windows update install the driver for you .
I disabled realtek from the device manager, waited and nothing happened So I tried windows update, manual look for updates. None were found. Then I did troubleshoot, I figured that might find a problem with the audio and install the driver, but it just told me to turn it back on.
but it just told me to turn it back on
lol @the troubleshooter
ok ,a couple more questions what is your motherboard type – brand – ?
and the link that you provider earlier to realtek website actually contains 2 downloads
1-AC’97 Audio Codecs
2-High Definition Audio Codecs
have you installed both or one of them ?
in my case -gigabyte motherboard -i had to install (( driver_audio_realtek_azalia )) which i think it is the high Definition one .
Board: ACER MCP73VE NVIDIA MCP73
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. R01-C1 12/22/2008
Is it possible that is my motherboard?
And I think I installed the High Definition Audio Codecs, seeing as it says Realtek High Definition Audio.
