Anti-Spyware or not

August 8th, 2013

Just wondering what most people did here, if they use something or just go “commando”……i’ve caught that fake antivirus twice in a year (reason im here is i lost my os trying to get rid of it) and this time i put Spyware doctor on but the damn thing is anoying as hell……every click of the mouse and it pops up with something, thinking it might be less of a headache to just reformat if i get one again…….

Malwarebytes is one of the best (if not THE best) to use alongside your Anti-virus. And it will be less intrusive compared to Spyware Doctor.

Answer #6
I run “commando” (no anti-virus/malware protection). Been doing so for years. I haven’t gotten any “parasites”. Once in a while I will click on a link and the fake-alert pop-ups start. I just kill all browser entries via Task Manager (Windows) and do a thurough cleaning with CCleaner. Gone.
However, it is worth mentioning that keeping up-to-date system/disk images affords me confidence (to recover the machine to a healthy state just in case of infection).
And safe browsing habits, of course.
Web of Trust (google it) is another friend.
