A gtx 260 worth it for £40?

July 31st, 2013

Yes or no? Just for batman / fifa gaming on a 32 inch tv? Thanks
Answer #1
If you don’t care for DX11, it should be fine.
But its still going to look bad because your using a TV and not a Monitor.

As long as it looks decent and play them smoothley i dont mind. And waht do you mean because im using a tv and not a moniter. I know a moniter is notibly sharper but will it not look good then? Fifa 12 on my intel hd 3000 looks ok
Answer #3

Answer #8
Gtx 260 Was Good for Batman And Fifa. And £40 Is really good deal.
Answer #9
Get it,
It’s a nice deal.
Answer #10
I sold my 2 GTX260’s on eBay for £50 + postage, so £40 is a steal.
I liked them. But I wanted to play Battlefield & MW3, which although the GTX260’s could handle it quite easily at Medium / High settings… I wanted that little extra ooommphhh so I upgraded.
I would say YEAH get it for £40
Answer #11
had gtx 260 sold mine to my bro for £20 and got gtx 560 ti
for the money i would say its great for Batman / fifa gaming on medium settings as long as you disable anti-aliasing and make sure everything is medium it should be great.
Answer #12
It’s a good deal. £40 is not much for a GTX 260 which is pretty decent.
Answer #13
thanks glad to hear its enough becuase i dont want to play hardcore games such as battlefield 3. Grr just missed on yesterday for 40 gonna see whatt i canget today. But on the batman reccomended specs it says that i should get at least a gtx 460?
or would a gtx 295 for around 65 be better value?

A GTX 295 for £65 would be a huge bargain…
Surely nobody would sell one that low though unless it was broken lol.
Answer #15
haha im looking on fleabay(only place there is in my budget!) and theres two going with like 10 mins left at £65 each but theyve both gone over £80!
Answer #16
Yes, you have no chance.
You should go for a GTX 275 or GTX 280, you can bag them for a shade under £80 these days on ebay.
Answer #17
Depends on which 260. Is it the 192 or 216 core?

At £40 it wouldn’t matter.
Both would be a good deal.

I’ve seen 280s go for around $70.
Answer #20
prices in uk are high anyway so thats pretty cheap. costs me £5 to use the bus to get into town and back.
Answer #21
Thanks guys for all your help i managed to snag a sapphire 5770 for 48 including postsge and still under warranty! What do you think?
Answer #22
Its not a video card that I would use (it was my video card 2 years ago).
Not enough oomph for decent games.
I suppose in your case, its cheap enough.
Answer #23
How is the 5770? I just bought it
Answer #24
i would of took the 260 over the 5770.
Answer #25
i would of took the 260 over the 5770.How so? They are pretty evenly matched imo and the 5770 has DirectX11.

Use a high resolution monitor and your looking at running most stuff from medium to low. Low on most newer games.
AA and AF is not an option.

was hoping on running games on at least high. How come graphics cards are so expensive!
Answer #28
What resolution do you use?
It’s not a terrible card, certainly going to perform well enough for what you paid.

There are many factors, fair competition, chip buying costs, board component costs.
People consider the 5770 is mid-range, I consider that its more of an entry level, any models below that is for your grand parents.
5970 being the best card at that year, 2 5870’s downclocked on a single board.
Then comes the 5870 which is still decent these days.
The 5850 being the sweet spot (I consider it to be mid-range), however this moniker is crippled.
What makes x700 series models really hard to swallow is that it only has a 128-bit memory bus, this is not efficient memory throughput.

I run at 1366 x 768 my tv is full hd but i cant read it from my bed at 1920 x 1080! :p

Of course it will look great if it’s a 1920×1080 TV. If it’s an old CRT TV then yes, it will look bad. But a HDTV is pretty much the same as a monitor, only much bigger.
Answer #32
Gtx 260 outperforms the 5770. I was looking at them last year and the 260 is better. I ended up buying a GTX 465 (got one real cheap) and it still runs most games on highest settings.
Even bf3 @ 1920×1080 runs about 35-40 fps on high.
As for the 5770 it will work fine on 720p. At 1080p it’s suicide. The card is just too slow, low end card.
Answer #33
I thought it would be decent as on my laptop i have a 4530 mobility and batman arkham Asylum on 40 inch screen?

As I said it will get the job done, it will give u dx 11 but don’t expect to use it on 1920×1080 ressolution on med/high settings.
Answer #35
My 5770 got fried due to static so i managed to get a bfg factory overclocked 260 for £42.50 including postsge! Its the 216 version. Was that a good a deal and will it really outperform the 5770? Thanks
