Safety and legality of using cracked mac apps

November 17th, 2021

Heyo – I’ve been benefiting from this wonderful community for a few years mostly for movies and mac apps – thanks mojado your the man) When ever I install a new cracked app i’ve got this suspicion that I’m leaving my self vulnerable to some legal issues and fines. What do I need to do to “keep safe” ?? I don’t really use any other website or torrents and this place seems pretty trustworthy… I’ve heard of little snitch, but havn’t quite wrapped my head around if I really need it or not or if that would even help me out with this. Thanks

Using cracked apps without profiting is not even considered a crime in a lot of places in the world. There are serious criminals around, an user using two apps for his hobbies is in the last place of the security threats. Piracy should worry you either if you are a releaser or a part of the scene or if you are making money out of it. For personal use, using pirated apps shouldn’t worry you. If you want the extra layer of security then you should download with a VPN and use the cracked apps only when you are disconnected from the Internet.

using anything cracked is not legal, but as mentioned use a vpn service to hide your activities, just like I do, then when you install the cracked software, nobody will even know that you have it since you were not seen to be downloading by your IP. Thats how a vpn service works…

The answer to your question depends largely on what jurisdiction you are in. Laws vary from country to country. In Britain, for example, downloading a cracked application is not a criminal matter but a civil one. However, uploading/sharing/distributing a cracked application would be a crime. Little Snitch might be of assistance to you. It’s quite easy to use and can prevent any applications you are concerned by from connecting to the internet.

Perhaps, but read the fine print, remember the point when you say Yes while installing…its not legal, no matter what country you live in.
Downloading is fine, but who does this and never installs the app…get real.
This is why you need a vpn service. Users don’t get busted because they installed the app….but… because they downloaded it. Its assumed that you will install it and ur gulity by association.

The legality depends on the laws of your countries. Some will care more than others. Keep in mind that there is no such thing as reward without risk. That being said, it’s not like the law enforcement will break down your door to arrest you for using cracked apps.
What normally happens is that your ISP will inform you that you have been caught and that you shouldn’t do it again (and perhaps face ISP related consequences)

They don’t check anything sometimes, I got a warning for my ISP that I uploaded too much via bittorrent and all I was sharing was a huge collection of linux distros…
