I can’t upgrade to Windows 10
August 1st, 2016
May or maynot help, but MS is launching the upgrade in waves.. I had a similar prob, and to get around it, DL the .ISO… Then you can install, I couldnt before doing this..
the iso won’t launch
to be clear, as i’m waiting till all these issues are fixed, you are trying to upgrade, keeping your existing configuration? otherwise, if you format your drive or the setup does to a compatible type and you are offline, I really don’t see where ms can kill the process. of course conversely if online and upgrading they most certainly can and probably do monitor the activity.
edit: did you get the compatibility message ok from their icon?
The media creation tool doesn't work even when I try running it as admin. The program does not even launch. I also downloaded a torrent but I couldn't get the setup to launch as well. I wonder if micrsoft is blocking me from launching with one of its updates. My OS isn't legitimate but it's activated etc. I really want to upgrade.
It would probably depend on which way it isn’t legitimate . Did you download your media creation tool from Microsoft ? Try downloading the Windows 10 iso from the apps section or you can find it on Microsoft`s website (better) .
Your os is ***ed if you cant run the setup.exe on the dvd
The only way is to probably boot with the disk , do a fresh install and use the KMS activation method . Maybe they will come up with a permanent activation down the road . Hard for someone to give you an answer without knowing what OS you are using and how it is activated .
Have you installed all the latest updates?
I think then, you should be offered the win 10 update..
For a bit of Windows 10 stuff, check here,,

Yes I installed all the latest updates and only files to update windows to windows 10 that won’t run. I just tried office 360 and it launched fine. I must add when I try running the 32 bit media creation tool it just gives a pop up that I should restart my PC. But i’m on 64 bit and when I try launching the 64 bit media creation tool absolutely nothing happens.. so frustrating. I downloaded a full ISO – the setup from this file still won’t launch.. This just doesn’t make sense.
Open the run dialog and type eventvwr . Press enter and browse Windows logs and try to find the log of the media creation toolkit or the setup of what you downloaded from torrents. Be aware that from experience, in the cases where you couldn’t launch the Windows installer the system was usually very screwed.
This is the only error I saw ,,,
Windows update could not be installed because of error 2149842967 “” (Command line: “”C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\wusa.exe” “D:\windows8.1-kb3035583-x64_4da62696602a9ed70ea54b477b2f309373623cf7.msu” “)

1.- check your PC specs, make sure the hardware supports it.
2.- http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/C/8/1C8BAF5C-9B7E-44FB-A90A-F58590B5DF7B/MediaCreationToolx64.exe
for all the versions Windows 10 Pro/home etc X64
3.- http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/C/8/1C8BAF5C-9B7E-44FB-A90A-F58590B5DF7B/MediaCreationTool.exe for the X86
4.- run the tool and select to deploy to other pc in order to get an ISO instead and…
5.- https://rufus.akeo.ie/downloads/rufus-2.2.exe
get this tool and load the ISO into a bootable USB stick (or simply burn it with this) http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
6.- restart the PC and boot from USB and let it rip, and select the bottom option to do a clean install independently of updates!
* Check/disable the firewalls and antivirus before, see if for some odd reason something might be blocking the executable
* do you have the windows 10 update reminder thing on the system tray? if so click it and see the report look for issues
-[b]The odd thing is that you mentioned the tool won’t run, that has nothing to do with Microsoft, there is something screwed up on your system
– have you tried doing a system restore/repair to see if the issue is resolved?
i tried more than 3 days without sucsess but today finaly i manage to update thnx to this post here..
but dont forget u have 2 methodes… first do as you said there than Check second method also.

The media creation tool doesn't work even when I try running it as admin
so this is your issue? what does “not work’ mean? Did you download directly from Microsoft?
Define “Doesn’t work”, you need to download the version according to your OS type. If your CURRENT os is 32bits, you download the 32 bits version. If it’s 64 bits, you download the 64 bit version. This has NO IMPACT on the iso itself you’ll download with the tool. Worked fine here.
I’m on Win 7 Ult x64, downloaded the 64bits tool. That thing fired right up and downloaded the iso of my choice
I got a USB and just did a clean install with the ISO.. Running beautifully now. I ran the tool after just to see and it worked. I had some success with the second solution from above by inserting an allowosupgrade value in the registry. But this just allowed me to update the technical preview I signed up for earlier. Still couldn’t run the tool at that point tho.. Then I just decided to just do a clean install – tried to upgrade but that caused issues. Thanks alot guys.
