Depending on the age of the motherboard, it can only take ram of a certain max size.. (That is for PC’s, but presume same for laptops..).. Check through my posts and you will find the answer of why you cant upgrade to more then that… (given the same rules apply for laptops and PC’s..)
It would increase the performance quite a bit… My main reason for upgrading was running out of ram, and the system slowing considerably.. Went from 6 or 8 GB’s to 16 and not had that problem since, for obvious reasons… And was reasonably cheap for Ram, not for having to build a comp from scratch to upgrade though.. (Not taking into account yours is a ……………..
Noticed you said you checked the info on your lappy.. Dont think it matters either way and will help if your a “heavy” user of your pc.. But as stated may differ from PC to Laptop… To get more Ram you have to rebuild a PC except for a couple of parts which can found looking through my previous topics…
Edit: each ram slot of the older ram can only be so much in size, like 2-4gb’s.. so probably impossible.. Using the newer ram which has more gb size per slot wont work in the system hence the above..

Yes it would appear to have an 8GB ram limit.
Still, that should be more than enough for most things..
BTW.. 2x4GB is better than 1x8GB usually, as they will run in dual chan mode (faster).

LOL… The problem isnt a maximum in general, but a maximum each slot can take due to the make of ram… Yet again with out researching again, say he has two slots, each slots max is 4 gb of old ram.. Take the two out, and add a newer 8gb ram and it wont work at all… Reason being, each slot has a max of 4gb of ram.. Newer ones something like 8 gb, each slot… New system or deal with it…

The max listed is 12gb but that’s only because Asus doesn’t consider the stick under the keyboard to be a consumer replaceable part. It also uses low voltage ram(1.35v).
