Access Denied to Canvio Basics ExtHDD (Running Win7)

August 8th, 2016

I’ve been using a Canvio 2TB Ext HDD to backup files from a Windows7 Laptop without any problems . My device manager can see the extHDD. But Win7 explorer can’t – it doesn’t show in MyComputer.
I’ve accessed the files using other laptops but mine won’t do it.
I need to do it soon because my SSD is almost full.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
Quick update.
I have the same problem with I pod. Device manager can see it but Win7 Explorer can’t and it doesn’t show in MyComputer.
It’s rather like the ports have been closed to data in or out.

have you or someone recently made a tweak on your user account ? is it administrator account ?
also have you tried to plug in the drive to another usb slot of your laptop if it is available ? when it worked on another laptop , were you using the same usb cable ? if not try another cable with the combination of different usb slot

before doing anything else , try this basic thing

-unplug your drive(important)
– go to device manager and find the correct device – right click on it and uninstall like the screenshot on the topic i have given
– restart your laptop
– plug your drive in and see if problem persists
Answer #2
have you gone into disk management and if there, tried giving it a drive letter ?
In Windows 7 click on the Start button.
Type the following command in the text box:
diskmgmt.msc
…and then hit the Enter key or press the OK button, depending on where you ran the command from.
Note: Technically, opening Disk Management from the Command Prompt would require that you actually open the Command Prompt program. However, running an executable program like diskmgmt.msc from the search or run box accomplishes the same thing.
Disk Management will open immediately.

Thanks for your help. I sorted it by uninstalling all USB in Devicemanager and restarted. Win 7 then reinstalled all USB devices. Problem solved thanks for your help and time. Cheers.
