Converting MKV without losing quality?

Hi what s the best Convertor – MKV to MP4/m2ts ?
I ave downloaded an 720p 4GB Video in MKV (h264) and want to edit in Sony Vegas, but it need to be converted to mp4 or m2ts. I know i could convert it to uncompressed AVI but i would get a 60 GB file. So what is the best coverted for the best result quality/size ?

Using MP4Muxer as shown in erosman’s guide would normally be one of the best ways as then
you are just changing containers of the x264 video stream.
You don’t touch or “convert” the actual video or audio, just repack it, and therefore there is no quality loss.
