Re-encoding 150MB

August 7th, 2016

Hi.I have a bunch of TV Episodes in .avi format of about 350MB each.I want to convert these into .mp4 or .mkv files of size 150MB.Can someone tell me what is the best possible way to do this without significantly affecting the video quality?

https://handbrake.fr/
Always works for me, just set the target output size to 150MB and format to mp4 or mkv
Answer #2
Tried that.Thanks
Can anybody provide a tutorial for the best possible quality while re-encoding to 150MB?

You specified the container but not the codec you wish to use. Using H265 you should get good results with a 150MB end file. Experiment with bitrate and resolution and see what setting looks best to your eyes and on your device. I set the audio as pass through, but thats my preference. Watching a good video with poor audio just ruins it for me.

I use Xmedia Recode these days which is similar to Handbrake, so the process is the same.
Bit rate determines the file size but too low a bit rate will look bad if the resolution is high.
Try a bit rate of 450Kb/s (constant speed 2 pass) and a resolution and frame rate the same as original(the original, being AVI, should already be in standard definition).
Sound you can do “Copy” or you might save a bit doing .aac/96Kb/s.

Try it ,THANKS

Handbrake/Vidcoder
They have preset quality settings, but of course, you can tweak them to your liking
Of course, this will be a very time consuming process
