Laptop won’t boot, not even to bios.

January 24th, 2020

I was opening firefox and it gave me a blue screen. When I restarted it by holding the power button, all it does is the power button would turn on without anything else blinking. There is nothing at all. I tried putting a bootable windows vista basic disc, it doesn’t do anything. please help The fan is on but nothig else is.
My laptop is a gateway and everyone’s saying that I need to reformat or whatever but I don’t wanna do that ;_; is there any alternative?

Answer #1
can you see anything on the screen? If not id say the MoBo died (since you said u cant even access the bios) If you cant hear the fans and if you dont see any of the lights then it might be the power plug or smthng
Wait for someone who might understand better. This is just my guess
Answer #2
Ask the reformaters how can you do that if the pc wont do anything from cd ?
there are just to many posibilities to this but it would seem definately to be hardware and unless you have lots of gateway bits to try then a repair shop seems called for might be worth googling gateway forum
Answer #3
Are any of the lights on? A Laptop always has HDD access lights, charging lights, and power lights.. Does the HDD access light blink/stay on?

By what you are saying…if only the fan turns on and nothing else…it might be the motherboard or chipset. Have you tried disconnecting everything on the computer and just leaving the motherboard and HDD on? Try that and see if you at least get any beep codes.
Oh yeah…can you hear any beep codes when trying to turn it on? That might help determine what the problem is.
EDIT: Sorry…i barely read that this is a laptop…I’ve hardly worked on laptop…he he…my suggestions might not help at all.

Answer #6
well this worked for me at one point pull out the battery and dont put it in attach to your wall adapter and start it up. If that doesnt work open it up and check if somethings lose else just take it to a computer shop if you cant even get to the bios or anything,
Answer #7
I tried that . Hm, well do you guys think its because I have a faulty motherboard?
Answer #8
it could be faulty anything honostly.
Answer #9
Hmm, If nothings beeping, nothings flashing… that most probally means the motherboard blew….. Even with faulty HDD’s you can get into the bios. With faulty ram, it beeps…. If its not beeping, that most certainly means that the motherboard died..

Answer #10
you disconnected power adapter and removed the battery for a minute or 2
Answer #11
You Could Try This??
Remove all power (adapter power Cord and Battery (for laptops))
Hold down the ON button for 30secs (dispersing internal voltage)
Plug the power cord in only (ie leave battery out, for the moment)
Turn on
If it worked replace battery
If That Don’t Help I Would Say That The MOBO Has Died On You!!
Answer #12
I have the same problem with mine. It would freeze in windows constantly, and sometimes not boot at all anymore (only the power led turning on).
The removing battery trick worked for a bit, but after that it just got stuck again.
I also tried someone elses adapter (identical laptop), and that didn’t help either.
It might be that the laptop isn’t getting enough juice somehow, even with the powercable plugged in. I’m sending mine in to the shop on tuesday to get it checked, because I can’t get mine fixed. I’ll post the results here, maybe it’ll be helpful for you.

It can be the CPU that have up as well tbh, if either cpu or mobo is dead you can’t get into bios. the good thing is that you most likely won’t have to reformat(your data should be safe on your hdd). I’d recommend you take it to a specialist at this point seeing as it’s a laptop & I doubt you’d have the tools needed to check what blew or replace it. also, if you do take it to the pc shop ask them to make sure they have a copy of your disk (if you have an external hdd they can do it quite quickly).

If it’s the CPU, could it be possible that Windows still works from time to time? (For me it worked fine in Safe mode for some reason, but the regular mode freezes constantly. It never hung before in the past, and it’s also a clean Windows installation so yeah). And whenever it froze, it sometimes wouldn’t boot into the BIOS until like 5 times of restarting it. Sometimes I actually have to force it to shut down. (Holding down the power button).

Are you sure you battery is charged? try taking out the battery

no, if your CPU or mobo is fried it won’t boot at all, you won’t even get into your bios. if windows can run or even show signs of running you’ve booted further then your bios meaning that both your mobo & cpu can at least run oke.
