USB Pen Drive stops boot at bios splash screen

March 17th, 2014

okay so just like the title says, when i have my 16gb flash drive in any of the usb ports, my computer hangs at the acer splash screen. i have been using this drive to boot many different distros of linux too see which one i like the best. i have a dual boot set up,windows 7 64 and zorin os. i use grub. which works just fine. i thought that maybe something in the boot file(in the usb) was messed up so i formatted the drive to default. fat32. no data, nothing. still makes the computer hang at boot =/ the best part is that i have an F12 boot device option. i booted my computer hit f12 then plugged in the usb and it and its locks up everything. any ideas? and before you say it no it is not my bios setting, lol. i have gone over this a million times. i have other pen drives and have booted linux off them with no problem.

Is it a Dell and did you recently flash a new set of BIOS

no, its an acer, and have original bios, i hate dell. lol.
Answer #4
Reason I asked is I was working on a dell with that problem and rolling back Bios to an older version fixed the problem . In your case updating the bios may be the solution
