I got a brand new Laptop comuter for Christmas, what would my limit be on programs to keep it as fast of speed as possible. The computer is a 2G Duel-Core Inside w/ Vista.
Here are some programs i want, would it slow me down?
iTunes
Kaspersky Security
Photoshop CS3
Sony Vegas
Lime
SwiftSwitch (Runescape)
Would that effect my speed much?

The reason why your computer slows down is with “age”. I don’t think it’s practical to limit yourself as to what software you install on it, what’s the point of having a fast computer when it couldn’t do what you wanted to do?
Over time things like HDD fragmentation, old registry keys etc will all tend to slow your system down to a certain extent. How soon depends on how careful and how you maintain your system. I’ve had XP boxes that lasts me 3+ years before they become sigificantly slower.
Just go and install what you wanted and enjoy your new laptop Learn to take care of it and make “windows” last a bit longer before you have to reload.

+1 Best answer your going to get – No, like he said, it won’t slow it down UNLESS there are viruses which is unlikely. Just be careful

Thanks, any quick tips to maintin my “windows”?

Erm, format it once in a while, don’t use it too long (ie leave it on during the night) and an extremely impoartant tip to maintain you battery life is either work it on battery OR AC power – NOT BOTH
Answer #5
Thanks, how do i format?
*Unplugs AC power*
P.S. Think you could help with my activation key for Kaspersky Security? I cant find it.

Quick tips? I can give you one. After formatting your PC and installing a clean copy of Windows, install only the needed programs and then create a Recovery Disk/Recovery Partition. You can then easily restore your Windows to nearly perfect condition in a few minutes without doing the whole procedure again. You can use either Partition Magic 8.05, Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image or any other program that you desire. Good luck mate ^_^

Computer speed is affected by a lot of things. However, simply put, you can take advantage of your computer speed better if there are only a few applications running in the background. Most of the time, only your Internet Security is running in the background so it’s good if you get an Internet Security software that is not resource hungry.
I’ve tried Kaspersky, BitDefender, AVG, Norton, McAfee, PCCillin, but so far, the least resource hungry (based on how I perceive it to be, I did not run any tests) is Avast.
Have a good day!
