Windows Home Server V1 Backups Fail To Open

August 4th, 2016

My WHS v1 backs up my Win 7 (32-bit) laptop & Win 7 (64-bit) desktop. In the past I have been able to open my backups to get at whatever I need. Now I get a report that states: “You need to format the disk in drive Z: before you can use it”. I have seen that this has been reported here before, but has anyone found a definitive solution for this? Thanks!!

This mans that “You need to format the disk in drive Z: before you can use it” drive z is corrupted or have access issues.

Sorry, but no, it doesn’t. There have been others who get this problem where they try to format the drive and either that is not allowed, or it does not work. Any out there that can help me with this issue?

Then its an issue with your enclosure. Pull the drive out and stick it in your PC, verify its good.

I do not think you really understand my problem. It is a Windows Home Server. You cannot just yank a HDD and rest it like it was in a USB enclosure.
