windows 7 – folder auto sort

January 27th, 2020

Is there any way to turn off the auto-sorting of files within Windows 7? I’ve recently upgraded from XP and this is the one thing that is really been pissing me off. In XP when you copied files/folders or unzipped an archive the new files went to the end of the folder so they were easy to find. Now Windows 7 sorts the files as soon as they are copied/unzipped so you have to dig through all the files trying to find the new ones.
I’ve looked around online but haven’t found a solution yet. The best I’ve come across was a recommendation to use a program called xplorer2, but i’d rather be able to do it without any additional programs.

I think I might have found a fix.
Right click the desktop, go to view, uncheck “auto arrange icons”.

No you can’t turn it off. Worst thing about windows 7. I went back to using XP but still kept 7 on a different partition. Has there been a service pack for windows 7 yet? maybe they will allow us to manually manage out files and folders in the next service pack because I know they get enough complaints about it on the ms site.
