Windows 10 upgrade from Windows 7 Pro — No Pro edition?

January 1st, 2018

I have a laptop that came with Windows 10 Home Edition. I then did a fresh installation of Windows 7 x64 Professional, activated and everything using DaZ 2.2.2. I used Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool to upgrade to Windows 10 x64. When I am in Windows 10 with an internet connection, I see that it is activated. However, the Windows version is Windows 10 Home edition, not Pro. My understanding is Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate editions will give you Windows 10 Pro when you upgrade.
I then did a clean install of Windows 10 via USB stick (ISO from Media Creation Tool), but there was no option to choose between the editions such as Home or Pro. It just installs Home edition by default automatically. I’ve done this exact steps in the past to about 5 computers and all were Pro editions and activated. Something has changed–I believe Microsoft did something to the new downloaded ISO to automatically check and install based on what you have.
Any ideas how to go around this? I don’t want to use any aftermarket bootloaders. Microsoft is ending the free upgrades by the end of July 2016, so I want to get in before they do that.

My guess would be that Microsoft already has your Laptops signature and knows you were a 10 Home edition. Microsoft has your laptops details.
Not sure of the work around sorry but I’m guessing there is one. Someone will help you soon I am sure of it.

Google is your friend!

The info is kept within the motherboard, not the hard drive hence why it picks it up on fresh installs.. Couldnt be bothered reading the solution, but given that link has one, it should fix your problem…

Thank you. I actually was on that link and tried that ei.cfg file method before creating this post, and it didn’t work. I did not have an option to choose which Windows edition to install. I think Microsoft is really nailing down pirating copies now. I might try to download the older Windows 10 (pre 1511) and see if it gives me a choice. Even with the choice, I don’t know whether it will activate since my machine is already activated with Home edition. Worth a try.

Ok, I read the fix, and the fix makes the install do the pro install no matter what… That type of fix usually would work on any version unless you did it incorrectly.. I dont think they would try to make sure you couldnt install one version over another…
Thirdly, personally I think the operating system should be one thing you shouldnt crack, just because its what runs your whole comp… Heres a link for Win 7,8,10 for 15$ for 7,8 and 19$ US for 10… (If you know you can still upgrade you would obviously do the 15$ one of either 7 or 8??)
Considering new games cost like 60-90$ US I think its a cheap investment and worth while.. I have a couple (lol) of cracked things on my comp, just think a OS is worth buying especially for prices like those…..

I’d never click a purchase on a site that allegedly gets that much business and doesn’t list paypal. Have you used it?
Answer #6
Yes, enjoy multiplayer games, and have bought about 5 games off them and a number of wow 3 month things over the last couple of years… (As well as tomb raider 3, was ok but had buyers remorse lol..)…
Answer #7
Tomb raider, lmao. Dont they give that away on Xbox lol
But I agree, buying software is much better. I’d pay $500 for windows to not have to bother with the crap associated with pirate OS. And on the worst scale, just buy a $15 DVD burner and get a cheap OEM OS.
Same with Adobe CC products and office, I pay. In fact, I own all my software, I just steal movies

Just because Angelina Jolie is the star in the movies doesnt mean they give the game away lol.. And given it was a denuvo protected was the only choice…
