Why does my internet disconnect me when downloading?
November 21st, 2013
I got new internet connection some days back (like 3-5 days ago), and since then, when I try download at night time when I’m sleeping, my internet disconnects me? I’m downloading with JDownloader by the way. I didn’t get “new” internet, well.. I basically did, but yeah… This is how I got “new” internet.
I used to have same ISP, but it was 24mb internet, and gave just 12mb to be honest, so I got 100mb instead. But since I got this 100mb internet connection, it disconnects me at night time, I don’t know why. I’ve tryed to lock my PC as I download, I’ve tryed to keep completely on the whole PC, but still no. Always disconnected when I wake up.
Is there something I could do about it? When I had the old 24mb internet, it didn’t disconnect me really… never. Just once in a while, like once in month or something but that ain’t much. Is there something I could do?
ALSO…
My download speed, it should give me 8-12mb/s (I’m not sure though), and I can’t do speedtest.net thing right now because I’m downloading at daytime then instead of night time, because I can’t download at night time… But yeah, my download keeps jumping from 500kb/s to 12MB/s (12 mb/s is more true than 500kb/s), shouldn’t it give me the full speed all the time? Or keep it above 6mb/s anyways? Not like 500kb/s – 5mb/s that it usually is. There’s just 1 LAPTOP (I’m using wires, PC you know) connected on this very same internet too, but it’s wireless. It keeps jumping, either somebody uses the laptop or not, it doesn’t matter.
Is there something I can do about it? Any help?
Can’t anybody help me???
I just thought maybe its downloading at max speed for some time and then hangs itself up. I am using mobile phone connected to laptop when downloading, it happened to me.
You should contact isp because it does not sound like pc issue to me, but i am no expert.
Try to use an Software like Refresher which will refresh any Site for every 30sec e.g.
Just try to do so, nd post if the connection stays up.
As for the Speed, depends on:
– Connection
– Premium or Free

There’s a “Redial if line is dropped” option for dial up users which keeps connection alive without any third-party softwares.

It doesn’t download at max even for a second, it starts jumping from 500kb/s to 5mb/s all the time, mostly it’s around 1-2mb/s, right away when I start the download(s).

I downloaded Refresher Enterprise 1.3 and I kept refreshing some random sites for a while, but didn’t D/C. + I have premium to everywhere. I’ve got premium to everywhere, always a premium. And connection is good, I’ve had the same ISP for… 19 years? Yeah I think, and just when I got this 100mb, it started freaking me out.
In that case, call your ISP nd request an technical support. Because paying for 100 nd getting only ~40% (with 5MB/s) aint right. If i m right, you could also not pay your bill because they must give you at least 2/3 of the speed named in the contract.
Well you could also try to get a another Laptop/PC just to check the line but that won t be easy.. So yes, call them.
quite often automatic updates for windows are set for 3am,if they restart your computer it will interupt your download, also check your power saving options and set to never put the computer to sleep, used to happen to me also, and thats how i solved it,maybey your answer, hope this helps

I’m thinking of trying to wire the laptop, because it’s wireless at the moment, do you think it going to make any difference? To be wired/wireless? And if it won’t help, I’ll probably call there and see what they going to say to me…?

My PC doesn’t restart really, not very often atleast, the updates shouldn’t be the reason. And my PC doesn’t go to sleep, it’s always on, even if I don’t move the mouse etc.

What do you mean? You use Refresher for WHAT actually? What else does it do than refresh the page(s)? And, hmm… I think I should of tryed that out in first place though as you said… I’ll give it a try though today!
It keeps your connection up. Wireless (mine) hangs it self of after a few hours, so i want to keep it active. If i download from Rapidshare, i set Refresher to open Rapidshare every 30 seconds.
It becomes an Rapidshare autoreload, nd so i get an state of connection to the server i m downloading from.
Are you sure it’s not traffic shaping/management with your ISP ?
Some here in the UK are pretty poor eg. Virgin
You might need to reconfigure your Wireless Router.
Downloading Might Stop due to “lease of DHCP Expiry” after some time.
You can check the expiry period from network connection periods.
Every time you connect to Internet it usually is provided for 1 Day Lease.
But Settings may got bugged as you use Premium Accounts hence the problem must not occur.
Better advised to Reconfigure/Refresh you router.
You must refresh your router/Modem Settings.

rly? i asked some ppl from manchester to post their connection results, nd all virgin media users had an 10+ connection.
Sky Broadband was s*ite.
Joalre, use to cable nd connect it directly to the router after that you should know what s bout. You can also ask for instructions at your Proveider.

Yeah – it’s even in their TOS

They say they don’t when you sign up, but they do
I know loads of people (heavy downloaders both day, and night) who have regretted signing a contract with them here in London
I am with Bethere, and although I am limited to max 24 Meg down / 2.5 Meg up (adsl 2+ annex M) there is no traffic shaping or restrictions. One of the very few in the UK that is truly Unlimited.

I wired the laptop, but it didn’t help at all. I also closed the WLAN (so the laptop wasn’t connected on the net), and I took the wires off it, so the laptop wasn’t connected on the internet at all. The whole internet was on this PC. So the laptop’s wired now, not wireless.

If you mean as maybe they (the ISP) has capped the download/upload limits / how much I can download? Then the answer is no. Because they don’t cap it, and my brother, and uncle has the same connect as I do. No limits or nothing.

What do you mean by “wireless router”? I have just 1 modem, cablemodem. I’m on cable, not ADSL. Because ADSL doesn’t let me get 100mb internet here, 24 is max. Cable let’s 100mb internet, so I’ve got cable modem, which has two wires now in it because of my PC, and because of my laptop is wired now, both of them. What do you mean by “You can check the expiry period from network connection periods.”??? I didn’t understand that one at all, so be more specific please! 🙂
And my internet is on PC pretty much 24 hours a day. At daytime on use, at night time uploading/downloading, and on MSN, and the browser(s) (firefox etc.). And you telling me that I should reboot/restart the modem I’ve got? + I can’t access in the modem settings. I got some papers with the internet when I went to that ISP place to buy/get it, and the papers says:
Customer number: 19*****9 (Hided the 5 letters/characters/numbers with/by *’s!)
Username: sa***s (Hided the 3 letters/characters/numbers with/by *’s!)
Password: nca****e (Hided the 4 letters/characters/numbers with/by *’s!)
Self-service (http://own.elisa.fi):
– The password change
– The change of PIN-codes
– A broadband modem settings
But I don’t know how to access in that own.elisa.fi place. What do I write on the OWN part? Customer number wasn’t right (I tryed), username wasn’t right (I tryed this one also.). So how can I even access in there?

If you mean, wiring the laptop? Which I did already. I mean the laptop ain’t in WLAN (wireless) anyomre.
Contact your ISP.
Yes, ring your ISP for instructions. They must repair it for free. Maybe you will ave to wait, no, you defo will wait but at least this will be fixed. If the wired/LAN Connection didn t help you know it s bout the Line itstelf. Just tell them you did so far.

Hmm… Can’t you think of any other option than ringing to the ISP? Well, I guess I’ll have to contact my ISP then. Which is closed at the moment, because it’s 11:26pm (23:26). So I’ll ring to them at tomorrow then, I guess! I’ll let you know what they says.
