Why can’t my computer run almost any game?

July 31st, 2016

This problem started about a year ago when my pc started having boot problems so we went to from where we bought the PC and the mobo, PSU, and GPU needed replacement – so we got em replaced. but even after things seemed ok, when i tried playing games that used to run smooth on my pc first when i bought it, i still had a problem playing games. I really dont understand. My PC is not super, but its good. Dual Core 2.93 Ghz
Nvidia GeForce GTS 450
4GB RAM
But each time i turn on a game (even sort of old games like Assassins Creed 1, Saints Row The Third), it can barely run even on the lowest resolution!
I checked the GPU temp and its about 52C, i cleaned my computer from the inside, ran disk checks and all that. but i cant find the problem!
I really would appreciate some help.
Thanks!

full specs of pc.
450 should run them two games easy
4gb plus OS you would need atleast 8gb
dual core? amd/intel might want to upgrade to better
52c on idle or while games running?

Dual Core 2.93 Ghz
This tell us nothing about your CPU. It could be an old core2duo, or a brand new i3 (or even worse an amd, lol).
Download CPUID and post a screen shot.

Like said, tell us your cpu.
I dont really understood what you said. Did you replace the parts a year ago and recently having problem or you just replaced the part and having problems?
It might be time for you to format and install a fresh OS.

Sorry for the lack of details guys, ill post a screenshot right away. and as for your question – about a year ago my pc started having boot problems and at the same time i couldnt run any games (like now), so after i got the parts replaced, the boot was ok and all so i thought everything was cool, but i did not run any games at the time so i didn’t know the game-running problem was still there. a year later i still see it exists.

Your cpu can definitely run those game you listed so thats out of the way. How many watt is your replaced psu? Shortage in watt can lead to things not working properly.
Answer #6
have you installed the latest nvidia driver for your grfx card ?

How can i check that?

I have..

Look at your psu. It will say like 500Watt etc.
Dont tell me you just went and pick the cheapest psu you can find x.x

Well, i remember before we got the PSU replaced it was kinda good (i think it was 450-500W), i couldn’t find the number of watts because it doesn’t show up on the sticker nor anywhere else surprisingly..but judging by it looks i’m guessing its also new and probably the same.
Answer #10
GTS 450 power consumption is about 250 so if you have an 500w then you should have half left for other stuff.
Since you already installed the latest driver. I would suggest you try to do a fresh os install to see if it works. Had happen to me before and a fresh install I was able to run all game. Also try any gpu stress test to see whats your gpu max temperature. It might be to high and make the card not work properly due to case airflow and other related thing causing high temp.

Where did you get that figure.
It only uses 106W on the limit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_400_Series#Chipset_table

It was actually from searching benchmark and such. Also it was my bad. Those score are
total system tested which I didnt took noticed of.
I dont trust wikipedia so I went to Nvidia site,

Maximum GPU Temperature (in C)
100 C
Maximum Graphics Card Power (W)
106 W
Minimum System Power Requirement (W)
400 W

Now guess the psu is out of the way if its 400+watt. Only thing I could think of now is the gpu overheating or files are messed up on the pc.

hdd ?
if your HDD is about to come to its end of life it gets …. slow …. also : when was the last time you did reinstall your OS ?
donwload a live unix cd and try with that , just to see if watching movies, streams etc. runs smooth on a live unix env.
EDIT :
was thinking about it while having a smoke …
lets see what we know :
1.) games started running slowly
2.) Hardware was replaced
3.) no change in the performance
conclusion :
52 centigrees CPU is way too high , malfunctioning fan probably ?
If the CPU goes that close to being fried it is either way overloaded or poorly cooled.
When you replaced the Hardware, did you clean the fan and applied new paste and fastened all “seatbelts” on the socket ?
Dont think it is the OS itself, could play a part, but somewhere the CPU / Mobo / HDD is having a problem.
running on a i7 with a quite new ATI cards plus 8 drives on 500w , no problems myself, so Id say the PSU aint the problem here either.
Run a disk benchmark , to see what the throughput there is, also run 3D Mark and post the results, this should show the current weak spots of the system.
Remember : old games that shouldnt be a prob for your sped aint running no more, problem is the hardware (most likely) , or the software (big, bumpy , blurpy windows) , but a benchmark sw will tell us.

you may have told us the problem. You don’t know what your bought. Open up your
case, and tell us what you bought for the power supply. With no additional information, the problem is your power supply.

Well actually i did reinstall Windows 7 not too long ago if that answers something. I think you got confused, its not the CPU thats 52c, its my video card which as mentioned here earlier probably not something to worry about since it doesn’t reach its max temperature.
I didn’t replace the parts, but the guy from where i bought the pc, all the parts were new i guess so i believe he installed them correctly. I mentioned earlier that i own GTS 450, but because of a VGA connection problem on the card i had it replaced and for now i have 9400 GT (but the problem still remained with both cards). I ran the 3D Mark, the link for the results i believe:
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/1570460
I ran a program for disk benchmark and i believe those are the results:

And , as i mentioned earlier i had hard time finding the Watt number on the PSU but im almost 100% sure we got the same one only newer which means its probably from 450-500, and i also ran a multi-meter test and everything was fine..
