What’s wrong with my television?

February 6th, 2020

I was awakened at 6am this morning by my TV in the Kitchen/dining room blaring away very loudly. This is not the first time it’s happened, I suppose that I’ve experienced it about 5 or 6 times in the last few years. Previously I’ve put it down to a glitch in the power causing a faulty switch to turn on. But this time it puzzles me. Just before Christmas I dumped the old TV and bought a new LCD. Why would this TV develop the same fault? No other TV in the house does it. Why does it happen only at night? Any suggestions would be welcome.

OP said s/he dumped their old TV and bought a new LCD – so I think it’s more likely to be something from the socket – if you’re using the same one.

So why not he try to plug in tv on other socket, maybe his voltage grows up at night. :-/ or it is poltergeist tv

Thanks for reply. There is no one in the house but me and my wife, and she can’t turn on the TV even when awake,(she is frightened to touch any of the remotes in case she breaks something) The TV is a 32″ LCD Toshiba, This is the first time since I bought it in early Dec, 2009, so not an auto turn on switch. If it was the socket then why not do it more often? My wife thinks it’s a ghost too.
Plugging into another socket is not practical due to position of TV.

This is a costumers review of one man:
This seems to be a nice set at first, however after 3 months it started having power problems. now it turns itself off and on 4 times a night, and im sure one day it will not work at all. Toshiba wont fix it since i received it as a gift with no receipt, and on top of that it had been purchased at circuit city which is out of business. Dont wast your money
It’s not auto wake up its not socket it’s tv,problem is that many companies goes suck. You don’t have luck i guess (like me bought new hard drive and it is dead and also computer is dead all that in less then 6 months and i cant retrieve )
Try to retrieve him where you buy it,maybe you will be more lucky than that man. At least your wife has no reason to be afraid

Thanks for finding that info. The good news for me is that I got a 3 year extended warranty and the place I bought it from is excellent regarding dealing with faulty goods.
I bought a laptop from them 2 years ago, when it developed a fault after a month) they replaced it straight away. I will tell my wife she can open her eyes when visiting the Loo tonight.

SIMPLE!! remove the plug from the switch! If the problem persists, call the Electrical Gizmos..
Answer #12
if its left on standby then could be some electrical interference causing it try another power socket
Answer #13
I’ve decided to turn the sound down so it won’t wake me up. This only happens about 2 or 3 times a year so it’s not a big deal.

Yes, I always do that, heard can save some electricity, because current flow even you close the switch, unless you unplug it.
