What’s The Best Format?

August 7th, 2016

Hey everyone I hope you all had a great Christmas I bought myself a new Camcorder in the Boxing Day sales but I’m having issues with editing my footage… I use Vegas Pro12.0 can anyone tell me what’s best to edit my 1080p footage in please? Also, what’s best to record in AVHD or MP4?
I recorded some in AVHD and uploaded it to YouTube and it says 108050p… What’s the 50p all about? Lol.
Also, the footage doesn’t look very HD to me, am I doing something wrong? My Camcorder is Canon LEGRIA HF R506
Any help is welcome thanks!

Vegas is one of the best, try Adobe Premiere also. You can try something easier for simpler editing too.
Also, what's best to record in AVHD or MP4?
You mean AVCHD? You don’t want to know what AVHD is… See this chart, I’d choose mp4 for versatility.

It’s the speed of the filming, 28Mbps for AVCHD or 35 Mbps for mp4.
Also, the footage doesn't look very HD to me, am I doing something wrong?
If you mean the uploaded content, it takes some time to process the video, try again later. If you mean the source material, I’ll just point out that grain= quality mate, that’s how it should look, if you don’t like it try a smoother filter like denoise or similar.

Hey thanks for that, I leaned a fair bit!
And I meant the quality straight on my PC from the Camera, On YouTube even on 1080p setting it’s grainy.
I made a video in daylight today and it’s better… Still not as sharp as the Video from my Canon 500D though ;/

When uploading to youtube, your video needs to follow their exact format otherwise they convert it for you with varying results.

The 1080p50 is 1080 active lines per frame, 50 progressive frames per second (not the Mbps of the video).

Hmm, well I can’t get an answer from anyone anywhere so I’m rendering it all in 1080 60i with Vegas… It’s sharpish but not as I was expecting to be honest ha…
