What softwares to install first time?

Hi people..
I just got my new laptop:D Now the thing is i want to know what are essential software/programmes that i need to download the first time?
I have done microsoft office 2010 and AVG anti-virus so far. Anything else i need to do?
What softwares do you people install the first time that are useful?

if i get a new laptop , first i would install microsoft security essentials then malwarebytes free edition, superantispyware free edition, winrar,
7-zip, firefox browser, skype, VLC media player, itunes, ccleaner, revo uninstaller etc…
that is what i am going to install if i get a new laptop but i would install other stuff too if i found some useful apps

welcome… yes it is from microsoft… do not download from other places (there are fake microsoft security essentials out there)

EDIT: you have to uninstall your AVG antivirus before installing microsoft
security essentials…

I would personally replace AVG with Avira AntiVir Personal + Comodo Firewall
For media playback: Combined Community Codec Pack (Media Player Classic Homecinema comes with CCCP)
Web browsing: Firefox 6.x or Chrome – take your pick
Windows Utilities: TeraCopy 2.x, CCleaner
If you’re into installing and playing games: Daemon Tools Lite, WinRAR

I would install these apps on it
Antivirus: Kaspersky Internet Security 2012
Media: Foobar for audio, KMPlayer or Media Player Classic for video playback
Web Browser: Firefox, Opera
Utilities: Internet Download Manager or Jdownloader, Winrar, CCleaner

Firefox with all the addons you’ll need. Adblock, FastestFox, Adobe Flash player w/e.
CCleaner (be careful of the crapware it will attempt to install)

to enhance your audio, I recmonded checking out SRS HD Audio Lab. Also get malwarebytes, it can work in sync with just about any Anti virus app.

I think threads like this are just pointless,One size does not fit all,It’s all a matter of personal preferences & usage,Some of
the apps mentioned could be useless to you if you have no need for em. I think you’d be best just installing your commonly
used apps and that’s that,The only thing I’ll comment on is PC security,AVG is one of the worst AVs and is especially brutal
on keygens/patches (highest false positive rate),I recommend you switch to Microsoft Security Essentials,Also,Since no
AV provides 100% protection,Using a good firewall is a must,Comodo is the best.
