Adobe premier is pretty good as well. If you have to ask for a good “video maker” you will more likely than not need some training, lynda.com and total training have some pretty cool tutorials for beginners.

Sony Vegas pro is the best one i have used, although its fairly pricey, it still has the best effects, most user friendly and strait forward movie maker i have ever used.
as for free movie makers.. there aren’t very many good ones out there, the best are limited to windows movie maker and its vista counterpart.

Sony Vegas and After Effects are the best for video editing, but it’s not that easy to learn. If you want something more accessible try Pinnacle Studio.

EDIUS 6.0.5 and Premier Pro. Vegas is easier to use.
Sorenson Squeeze or Promedia Carbon for compressing the uncompressed video exports .
