It means that the cd had a big crack in it . . . . .
jokes aside it means that someone has bypassed the copy protection or whatever the maker of the software utilised to force you to buy the software
the maker put a lot of time and money developing the software so if you use it cracked and like it then buy it

True also watch out some cracks may not be “true” cracks…sometimes they are a virus

In general, it’s something that makes a retail/demo/trial version of software/games/movie etc work as if it were purchased at a retail outlet … i.e. fully working without restrictions. A crack can be a serial number, a patch, a cracked program file, a key generator or a combination of these.
