Tell me if i missed any compatibility issues.
Trying to fit around $650 without a monitor I will be playing games like cod4, cod5, aa3, mw2, l4d, crysis… I expect to play call of duty/aa3 at fairly high settings and get good performance. Trying to fit around $650 without a monitor Here are the Guidelines:
1TB HD or (2) 500GB HD
4GB of RAM
Core 2 Duo CPU – Intel only (Overclockable)
260GTX or higher gfx card
19″ – 20″ monitor
Yes, I’m an overclocker
Can’t decide between DDR3 and DDR2 memory, visible difference?
opinions and tips welcomed.

Here’s a far FAR (emphasis on far ) better build for around the same. The +2mb cache on the Q9400 isn’t worth the extra $40

Why an extra 70 watts on the power supply?
Is that mobo sli compatible?

Will run better. The bigger the supply the better things will run.
Also you will be able to add more later on.
Minimum power supply I would put in a computer now is 600-700W.

trust him, he knows what he says
his build is a way better

Because I put in a better graphics card that requires more amps and there was still room left in the $ not to mention it was on sale. The OCZ is also a better PSU overall on quality than the crappy Raidmax.
Is that mobo sli compatible? No P45/P43 motherboard is SLI compatible. For socket 775 motherboards you need an nForce based one and they are damn expensive. However the higher end P45’s will support CrossFire but there’s no point unless going with a better PSU etc.

I like the DA’s build. Honestly, if I were you, I would save up another 100$ and bump up that mobo. It will definitely save you in the long run.
Answer #7
Pretty sure the performance is the same with P43s and P45s only the BIOS and ICH10 is different. A better motherboard is only needed if you’re an overclocker. But yeah no need to spend extra $100 you can get a good one like the EP45-UD3R or P5Q-E for maybe $50 more.

sorry if i made it seem like i was saying you didn’t know anything. I was just asking why the extra watts so i know what it’s going to. I know the power supply is an important part because it’s supplying power to your computer (duh)
My friends told me to spend more on the mobo because that way i can upgrade any other parts later and keep the mobo future proof. I’m trying to lean towards an sli compatible mobo because i may add more cards in the future. Any suggestions for improvments on DA’s build? I could stretch the limit to $750 just to make it future proof.
EDIT: Yes i’m an overclocker. If I didn’t overclock I wouldn’t be getting the best out of my money

What about a good mobo with SLI? I’m aiming for future proof and possible future upgrades.

lol I was thinking the same about that PSU when I saw it listed. I purchased a Case/PSU Raidmax combo a few years ago and the PSU was crap. Voltages fairly unstable and the connectors were terrible quality, the gfx card connector was loose and if it moved the gfx card complained about not getting power. The case wasn’t too bad for a cheap case but the PSU really was poor. What about a good mobo with SLI? I'm aiming for future proof and possible future upgrades.
If it’s a DDR 2 motherboard then it isn’t going to be future proof. It’s all DDR 3 triple channel now. I doubt future proof can exist in the computer world anyway.
The 250GB drive seems a bit small, I would look for at least 500GB.

Well I was aiming for atleast SLI because i may add more cards.

If you’re just going to game, why not save a few $$ on the Qxxxx and go for a E8xxx and a good HS/HSF and OC the hell out of it. You’ll see more usable performance.

I don’t want to spend all my money at once. I want to start with a good base and move up. Still searching for a good mobo that supports sli/quads and good for ocing.
EDIT: also are there any applications or games that currently use the quad? If not i might aswell wait for the i7 to drop in price.
Answer #16
i will agree with the second configuration!! much better especially the bigger monitor and disk (even though i dislike WD)

I might change my entire build. I rather have 1 really good card than 2 really bad ones. And also i may wait for the i5 depending on the price. Then again DDR3 memory is preferable over DDR2.
