DirectX 10 is Vista only. If you want to go with Vista, install the 32bit version. And yes, Vista is slower than XP.
Answer #4
If u like a faster PC stay on xp, I’ running vista with 1.5 Gb RAm on 1 system and Xp with 512mb RAM on the other,
Xp is still faster, although vista looks more pleasing
Answer #5
Basically, if you want the fastest speeds out of your PC stick with XP. There is no doubt that it is quicker than Vista however in order to have DirectX 10 you MUST have Vista. So if you want to play the latest games which require DirectX 10 then get Vista and if I were you I would get 32 bit simply because there are loads of compatibility problems with 64 bit and fewer people use it that 32 bit. Btw, I use Vista Ultimate x32 and it is running quickly with barely any problems.

There are hardly any problems with Vista x64. Stop complaining.
Answer #9
I personally prefer using 32 bit systems, just because they are compatible with more things. XP is quicker than Vista yet Vista has DX10.
Answer #10
DirectX 10 for XP is in progress, currently in BETA version..
Answer #11
I experimented with both 32 & 64-bit versions of Vista and found the 64-bit to be faster. Eventually I went back to XP 32-bit with Vista enhancements and I’m much happier now.

Answer #12
is that so…hmm….so ur suggesting that i should install VISTA x64???
Answer #13
I don’t suggest you to go for 64bit, because there are not many x64bit drivers available. And there is really NO advantage in x64, unless you want to use more than 3 GiB ram.
Answer #14
X32 IS BETTER THEN?

I am hardly complaining, simply showing my opinion. It is well known that many people stop using x64 because of compatibility issues and unless you have a over 2GB of RAM you cannot get the speed benefits and so there is little point in running it if you don’t! Go for x32 mate, you’ll definitely be happier with it!

It is well known that x64 is more responsive and that the driver issue got sorted out when Vista x64 came.

We can agree to disagree if you want because this really isn’t answering the question. He only has 2GB of RAM and in order to get the benefits of x64 you need more than that – therefore I would suggest just getting x32!

I agree with you.
@ArounD: How do you define: “more responsive”?
Well, there is another fact that has not been mentioned yet. Obviously, the sizes of the registers have increased as well. They have now a size of 64 bits. The ALU is now much faster in dealing with very very high numbers. (= numbers beyond -2^31 and 2^31-1 // 2^32). But hardly any applications benefits from this.
Answer #20
Ive just upgraded from 32bit to 64bit, the driver issue IS a pain and Id say go for 32bit for games, or xp for other
