[urgent] windows doesnt start

January 28th, 2020

Hello my windows xp doesnt boot in safe mode or normal mode.
My installation cd of windows xp doesnt have the option of repair… so if I install it again I will lose data.
Can someone please help me on alternative ways to at least save my archives?
I have seen ‘windows live cds’, does this work and can someone recommend me one that actually works and maybe guide me to a clear tutorial?
Also if some can direct me in the direction of tools that repair windows, that would be great as well.
Thank you

can you say firstly what happens at start-up? Theres the get into XP, get files out and format but we’ll try diagnose the start-up first. If that doesnt work then we’ll try plan B

what error you are getting?
Answer #3
Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
After I see the windows logo, black screen and then the pc restarts (both in normal and safe mode). I had noticed this about a week ago in safe mod…. dont know if its related but I had some issues with some spyware (like one that directed me to go.google.com).
Also right before the pc stopped starting in normal mode I had rebooted it using msconfig and picked safe mode on there…….
I dont know if its just a coincidence.
On the options as the sytem loads I picked ‘dont restart automatically when the system finds an error’… when I do that I get a blue screen with a message… it says something about the graphic card.
I know that the graphic card is fine because I have a dvd with some tools and has a divx player that works off the dvd and I can watch video files fine.
That’s about as much detail I can think of…
Thank you

This Live CD is The best I ever Used…It’s more than a live CD…It have every tool you ever need…Burn to Cd and boot from it…Backup your data to a separate partition or external drive:

Hi , thanks for the tip… this is the first time I would be using such tool. I’ll see if I can get some more info on the whole matter, especially what tools I can use that would help me repair my current windows installation. Although as of now I would just be thrilled if I could access all the stuff I have on my pc hd.
Answer #6
The Tools are listed in the Topic…and yes you will be able to access all partitons/Drives…
Answer #7
Allright, I’m downloading it. I’ve seen a lot of topics with downloads to ‘live cds’ and it’s impossible to tell what is best.
The pc where I have a problem a p4 2.0GHZ 512KB ram will it run ok?
Will I be able to connect to the internet? I’m currently using a friends laptop but i have to give it back soon, so hopefully I’ll be able to have internet from the pc if I can get the cd to work.
I appreciate all the help.

To repair your windows..Download a copy of untouched windows XP…Make sure it’s the same edition as the one you have installed…Nothing integrated..Not even the key..Or you won’t get the repair option…But carry on downloading the live CD and do a repair after you backed up your data..
Answer #9
Unfortunately my windows XP cd doesn’thave the repair option, I’ve looked into that… the best I could do was an installation that would keep data but delete ‘my documents’. So maybe I’ll be able to save my data to an external hd using the live cd.
Does the internet work on the live cd?
I’ve finished downloading the files fromm rapidshare and it is dated from 21 April… should I use this version or are there any updates to it?
Again, thanks for the quick replies.

No idea if you can get on the internet..you just have to find out later…
You windows XP is probably customized that’s why you don’t get the repair option…
There is updated copy of that..but the only things that are updated are antivirus and spyware stuff…

I know, I bought that pc on a good store here a few years ago and found out my copy of windows wasnt orginal when I tried to update to service pack 2 lol. Then when I had a problem at the start of last year I formatted the pc using a good customized dvd (thats the one who has the divx player where i see that videos play… so no issue with the graphic card).
