Testing virtual DHCP server

November 6th, 2013

I recently setup a virtual machine to test a configuration before setting it up on a real machine. I have a test configuration on the VM but I am unsure how to test it. I am using VMWare Workstation 8 and have the VM operating in bridged mode with a static IP. Would I just need a new VM on the same network, if so the issue is then it will get a DHCP address from the router rather than the server since its a wireless network.
How would I go about testing this?

Answer #1
Does the scenario absolutely require you to have the VMs bridged to the physical network? You should just make a new virtual network and have the two VMs live in that instead.
Answer #2
How would I create the standalone virtual network?
Answer #3
Two networks are already created by default in VMWare. To add more just go to the network settings. I don’t remember where it is it’s been a while since I used VMWare’s Workstation.
