Subs included with movies dont work

I’ve been having this trouble for some time now. Subtitles never work on 720p movies, not even when the poster has included the srt file with the main download.
I’m watching Smurfs, by shaanig and srt is included but when I select with vlc.. nothing shows. And when I use media player classic it says I need to change the video renderer type and reopen the file :S
It’s not only with shaanig’s files, ultrascorps as well. Even the subtitles I download off the net never work with these files :/
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Usually Shaaning hard codes the subs into the movies that he encodes, so I don’t see any need for you to download a additional srt file?
I would say check your preferences in VLC player to enable subs for the showing of his movies, or get a better media player…. I personally use GOM Player http://player.gomlab.com/eng/download/ (way better than VLC) just right click on the screen while the movie is showing an select to enable subtitles for said movie.
