streaming from PC to TV

January 29th, 2020

Currently I watch all movies and TV shows on my PC, from DVD or avi/mkv files (no web streaming).
I’m thinking about getting a LED TV (1080p) but I need something to get my video content to it, , also audio streaming (mp3, ogg, flac!, mpc) would be nice. A quick research offered that “apple tv” streaming device and ROKU, which sounds more interesting.
Can you offer some advice and experiences on that area?

Answer #1
summvision player connected to hd, best option!
Answer #2
Do you already have a ps3 as you can easily stream to it,if not then sustanson250’s suggestion would be the best bet they will play anything you can throw at it and at under 40 for the latest version with 8GB built in memory they are a steal.
Answer #3
No console available So the summvision player requires that I have to swap my USB device every time I want to add new stuff to it? And its only available to TV OR PC
thats a big disadvantage

no need to get that version, as you are paying for the memory.

8GB is just a drop in the ocean, I need more like 2TB and the data available on PC and TV simultaneously What do you think of Roku, combined with the Plex Media Center software

you are not connecting a hard disc, just connect the summvision. its a better solution, as you can can get drop outs when streaming, and you have to have pc on(pointless)
and if you are rich, just buy a media server. although i dont know how you are rich, but still downloading

I always like the solution to set up a network share (NAS or regular PC or something similar) in combination with a HTPC (Home Theatre PC). Personally I prefer XBMC to run on a HTPC, but you may prefer something more lightweight. You could even buy a Raspberry Pi to run XBMC for less than $50, but it just doesn’t run as well as a regular HTPC. You can use the NAS/PC to store and download your content, and then stream it to the HTPC. A setup like this (with a RaspPi) should cost no more than 300 bucks, depending on which NAS, and the number and size of the hard drives.
@sustanon, maybe he is rich because he downloads , and saves a lot of money this way?
Answer #12
Don’t get a NAS they are a waste of money when you can get an enterprise grade 8 port SAS card with 512MB of battery backed memory like a P400 for 40$
Answer #13
, exaclty :p
Thought about the rapsberry but in the end I could always use the hardware of on old laptop and achieve the same.
Somehow the cheapest solution eluded us all
A TV that comes with DLNA support and Ethernet port.
@All those people with double standards, “what are you doing on a site” use the thing between your ears

Answer #15
if your going to get LED TV, I am assuming its going to be a smart tv? Most tv nowadays has DLNA, I use PS3 Media Server > to my LG Smart TV and I can play straight through. Haven’t ran to any problems yet. So that is another option.
